This chapter briefly introduces the PlantWise software, the modules, and user interface basics. The succeeding sections describe how to use the PlantBuilder features of PlantWise to build and manipulate three-dimensional CAD models of process plants to support plant conceptual design and visualization.

Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) fixes major plant project decisions. Very early in the process – while the P&ID is still in a state of flux – the plant has to be laid out for feasibility, permitting, real estate, and equipment considerations. At this stage, rapid 3D visualization of the contemplated plant layout is of high value for operations, safety, and maintenance review.
