Working with a Window

Windows can be moved, minimized, brought to the front, and closed.

Moving Through a Window

There are several ways to move from one part of a window to another: click the desired field with the mouse, tab to the desired field, or scroll up, down, left, or right.

Tabbing

All of the fields of a window, including buttons, can be accessed with the <Tab> key.

Scrolling

Windows and panes may contain information that cannot fit into the window or pane. In such cases, the window or pane may be equipped with a vertical scroll bar to the right and/or a horizontal bar under the window or pane.

A vertical scroll bar is made up of an up scroll arrow, a down scroll arrow and a scroll box. The vertical dimension of the scroll box in relation to the length of the scroll bar indicates the portion of the information visible in the window.

To move up in the document, point on the up scroll arrow and hold down the left mouse button until the desired portion of the document is visible. Then release the mouse button.

To move down in the document, point on the down scroll arrow and hold down the left mouse button until the desired portion of the document is visible. Then release the mouse button.

The view can be changed by dragging the scroll box: Point to the scroll box and drag it until the desired view is in the window.

A horizontal bar is made up of a left scroll arrow, a right scroll arrow and a scroll box. It works in the same way as the vertical scroll bar but in the horizontal direction.

Reducing a Window to an Icon

Occasionally it is desirable to reduce a window to an icon so that it takes up less screen space but can quickly be redisplayed. A window that has been closed to an icon remains in the workstation’s memory. To close a window to an icon:

  1. Click on the minimize box in the title bar.
  2. To re-open the window, double click on the icon, or click on either the maximize or enlarge boxes.
Note: The CAD window can be minimized but not closed.

Bringing a Window to the Front

When there are several windows on the desktop, a desired window may be partially or completely covered by another window. Windows can be dragged around the screen or re-sized to uncover a hidden window. To change from one program to another, the <Alt> + <Tab> key combination is useful. PlantWise places icons on the task bar for easy access to the main interfaces.

Exiting a Window (Exit Buttons)

Clicking on any of the following command buttons (Exit Buttons) may exit a window:

SettingDescription
OK Generally means that the information input in the window is correct and to be applied to the data and exit the window at the same time.
Apply Accepts into PlantWise values entered into the entry fields of a dialog without exiting the dialog.
Cancel Aborts the procedure and exit the window at the same time. Reasons for doing so may be that you have selected the wrong window in the first place or that the input is wrong and you wish to start over.
Delete Used to initiate the deletion of a selected project, model, library, class, component, attribute, or value. Removes the item from the knowledge base.

Selecting a Close Window command in a menu, typically a File menu, will close the window. This command is generally used with information windows.
