Editing a Report

To manipulate completed columns, select the column in the expression list and open the Swap pop up menu with a right mouse click.
The Report Editor Swap pop up menu is divided into five regions:
  • Column Layout
  • Sorting Definition
  • Defining Totals and Subtotals
  • Filtering Functions
  • Column Removal

Column Layout

Swap - swaps the selected column definition with the one immediately above.

Sorting Definition

Sorting is based on the values in columns. For real, integer, and currency the column is sorted in numeric order; while strings and text are sorted alphabetically. The sort is case insensitive. The sort number appears in the Sort field of the selected column. Thus the sorting is first preformed on the column that has a 1 in the Sort field then on 2, etc.

  • Ascending Sort - An “A” will follow the number indicating an Ascending order.
  • Descending Sort - A “D” will follow the number indicating a Descending order.
  • Swap Sort - swaps the sorting order of the selected column with the one immediately above it in sorting priority. If the selected column is not included in the sorting keys, nothing happens.
  • Unsort - removes a selected column from the sorting keys. If the selected column is not included in the sorting keys, nothing happens.

Defining Totals and Subtotals

  • Total - calculates a total for this column. The total appears at the bottom of the report. A T appears in the column.
  • Subtotal - calculates a subtotal for the selected column. The subtotals are calculated every time any subtotal-by field changes value. When a column is selected to have its subtotals calculated, an ST appears in the total field of the column definition. In the same fashion, an ST by appears in the total field of the column that controls when the subtotals are calculated.
  • Subtotal by - is used in conjunction with Subtotal and Total/Subtotal. For example, you can report on pipeline lengths Subtotaled by pipeline diameter. Subtotal by columns should be sorted.
  • Total/Subtotal - is used when both subtotals and a total are calculated for a column. This is marked with a T/S in the total field of the column definition.
  • Don’t Total - removes a Total, Subtotal, or ST by definition from a selected column. The respective mark (T, S, ST) disappears in the total field of the definition.

Filtering Functions

The filtering functions allow the removal of duplicate labels as well as the aggregation (totaling) of several values.
  • Aggregate - as long as the value of the non-aggregated columns are the same, this filter will sum the values in this field to produce one row for multiple entries. (For example, the Aggregate filter would sum the lengths of all A2A class pipe with a four inch diameter.)
  • Skip Duplicates - For the selected column the Skip Duplicates option displays only the first occurrence of a value and omits the subsequent duplicates.
  • Don’t Filter - removes the filtering function, if any, from the column definition.

Column Removal

Delete - removes the selected report column from the format definition.
