What's New in 2025 Release
OpenTunnel Designer (OTD) 2025.00.00 contains the enhancements and error corrections mentioned in the following paragraphs.
I. TechnologyStack
- MicroStation PowerPlatform 25.0.1 (25.0.1.412)
- Civil Platform (25.0.0.678)
- OpenRoads 2025 (25.0.0.177)
- Certified with PW v24.0.0.12
- CONNECTION Client (25.00.01.04)
II. OpenTunnel Designer Enhancements Highlights
- Create transverse alignments – the tool is based on the same option from OpenRoads Designer. The new option will ease the creation of transverse alignments for tunnel cross passages modeling.
- Cross passage intersection – the tool provides options to intersect the solids of the main tunnel with the cross passages, merging the solids of the tunnels.
- Tunnel trimming – the tool provides options to trim the solids of the secondary tunnel at the extrados of the main tunnel. The main tunnel solids will not be modified by the secondary tunnel solids.
- TBM UTR unfolded view drawings – automatically generates the unfolded view drawings for the TBM UTR rings.
- TBM UTR ring position drawings – automatically generates the ring positions drawings for the TBM UTR rings.
- Model piles – the new tool provides options to model piles with the following cross sections: rectangle, circular and pipe.
- Rebar Modeler engine (Tech. Preview) – based on ProStructures rebar engine, this engine provides the option to model, detail and report concrete rebar elements. The current version provides the same capabilities as ProStructure rebar engine. For more information regarding the capabilities of this engine, please visit ProStructures help file and YouTube page.
- Insert row option for Construction Scheduler – the new option eases the workflow of adding new stages between existing stages in the Construction Scheduler tables.
- Input/quantities reports enhancements – the reports have been updated to reflect the intersection/trim of tunnels
- Assign active Terrain – this option will ease the interoperability between OTD and OpenGround extension, by providing a DTM that the imported boreholes can target as an top elevation.
- Transfer boreholes to PLAXIS 3D – This new feature will transfer the borehole information imported from OpenGround to PLAXIS 3D. In PLAXIS 3D, the created boreholes will present the correct local coordinate system in relation to the transferred tunnel geometry, it will have the same name as in OpenGround and the created soil meshes will present the name and color as defined in OpenGround database. The material created in PLAXIS 3D will need to be manually updated by the user with the corresponding analytical properties.
- Transfer piles to PLAXIS
- Send beam reinforcement as beam/volume/combined to PLAXIS 3D – all beam like reinforcement presents now 3 options for PLAXIS 3D i.e. embedded beam, volume or combined (dummy beam approach).
- Support for PLAXIS 25
III. MicroStation Enhancements Highlights
- IFS Conditional Expression - Expressions that multiply “Value” by a factor based on the “Quality” property. IFS function halts the evaluation of conditions as soon as it finds a true one, resulting in considerable performance improvement.
- Google Maps replacing Bing Maps - Google Maps provides extensive, up-to-date, detailed coverage, displayed as background map context. It provides better-quality satellite and aerial images than are available in Bing Maps.
- Google 3D - Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles are 3D meshes,
textured with high-resolution imagery.
- Provide high-resolution 3D maps of populated areas, enabling immersive visualization experiences for your project.
- Understand the surroundings of your project, in 3D
- Evaluate new areas to make informed decision
- Bring context to your project visualization and presentations
- Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) API Feature Connection Service - Easily connect to Esri ArcGISTM or OGC WFS services to query and display content.
- GCS Icon - Displaying the assigned GCS in the status bar improves situational awareness and reduces the risk of misaligned data or incorrect coordinate assumptions.
- Vertical Datum Support - Project geographic coordinate systems can now be setup to use named vertical datums.
- RealDWG® 2026 - Supporting RealDWG® 2026 ensures seamless interoperability with current AutoCAD files, reducing friction and improving workflow continuity.
IV. OpenTunnel Designer Error Corrections
- Fixed an issue where item types are getting duplicated in item type reports.
- Fixed an issue where item type properties of cell type elements are getting duplicated in IFC files and iModels.
- Fixed an issue where the level of tunnels and reinforcements are seen as Default instead of their own levels in the tooltips.
- Fixed an issue where the tagging can’t be done if the boundary of the template is created by using B-Spline curve.
- Fixed an issue where OTD objects don’t get retained in display when they are isolated.
