Importing Cesium Data
Ability to import Cesium data into OpenTunnel Designer terrain models: OpenTunnel supports the direct import of terrain real-world data from Cesium World Terrain, enabling users to enhance their terrain models with highly accurate and detailed elevation information.
Workflow
- Select the From Cesium World Terrain tool from the create terrain option.

- Select the shape.
Figure 1. Selected Shape
Note: The selected shape does not contain any elevation data; it only helps to fetch data from the selected location within the shape. - Select the Grid Intervals.
-
Smaller Grid Intervals, more elevation points, and more detailed terrain.
-
Larger Grid Intervals mean fewer points, faster processing.

- It will start processing the data.
The process incorporates feature definition and adheres to the standard procedures used for defining features within OpenTunnel Designer. This ensures consistency and compatibility throughout the terrain modeling workflow.
The application processes elevation data sourced directly from Cesium World Terrain. This global dataset is compiled by integrating multiple elevation sources, providing users with access to a comprehensive set of terrain information. The resolution and accuracy of the elevation data may vary based on the sources used in the Cesium world data.Note: The size of the selected shape process may take some time as it is processing real-world data. - 3D Model View – You will see the triangulated terrain, where each triangle represents changes in elevation across the surface. Plan view selected area is filled, while in Model view, it is a 3D view that helps to understand elevation changes.
