How to Place Excavation Subspaces and Reinforcement
The workflow for placing excavation subspaces and reinforcement is as follows:

- To place excavation subspaces, user must go to Construction tab>Excavation>Excavation subspaces and selects tunnel lining.
- To place reinforcements,
user must go to the corresponding command and then select tunnel lining.

- After selecting the tunnel lining, Place
Reinforcement dialog will be opened. This dialog differs for each reinforcement type.
-
Placing Excavation Subspaces

- The area of the reinforcements groups can be seen.
- User checks the boxes to select the reinforcement groups that he wants to place.
-
User defines materials to the selected reinforcements groups.
-
Placing Shotcrete (Area)

- The area of the reinforcements groups can be seen.
- User checks the boxes to select the reinforcement groups that he wants to place.
- User defines materials for the selected reinforcements groups.
-
Placing Shotcrete (Line)

- The wall length of the reinforcements groups can be seen.
- User checks the boxes to select the reinforcement groups that he wants to place.
- User defines wall thickness and material for the selected reinforcements groups.
-
Placing Jet Grouting

- The number of columns and column diameter of the reinforcements groups can be seen.
- User checks the boxes to select the reinforcement groups that he wants to place.
- User defines column length and material for the selected reinforcements groups.
-
Placing Forepoles

- The number of columns and column diameter of the reinforcements groups can be seen.
- User checks the boxes to select the reinforcement groups that he wants to place.
- User defines column length, material and driving angle i.e. longitudinal inclination angle along the tunnel length for the selected reinforcements groups.
-
Placing Rock Bolts

- The number of columns and column length of the reinforcements groups can be seen.
- User checks the boxes to select the reinforcement groups that he wants to place.
- User defines column diameter, section start offset i.e. the distance from the section start to the centerline of the first row of rock bolts, section end offset i.e. the distance from the section end to the centerline of the last row of rock bolts, number of rows and material for the selected reinforcements groups.
- Placing Piles
-
The number of columns and column lengths as defined in the template as are shown as read only values.
- To place a group, the corresponding check box needs to be selected.
- User selects from one of the Pile Shape options. Each pile shape has its own inputs. The pile shapes that are available for modeling : Circular, Pipe and Rectangle.

- Pile Shape - Circular

- User defines column diameter, section start offset i.e. the distance from the section start to the centerline of the first row of piles, section end offset i.e. the distance from the section end to the centerline of the last row of piles, number of rows and material for the selected reinforcements groups.
- Pile Shape - Pipe

- User defines column diameter, column thickness, section start offset, section end offset, number of rows and material for the selected reinforcements groups.
- Pile Shape - Rectangle

- User defines column height, column width, section start offset, section end offset, number of rows and material for the selected reinforcements groups.
-
- Placing Steel Arches

- To place a group, the corresponding check box needs to be selected.
- The number of elements that are defined on the template are shown as read only values.
- The available shape type is shown as read only.
- User selects one of the available shape names from the catalog.
Note: The catalogs to be used can be managed within the OpenTunnelDesigner.cfg file which is located C:\Program Files\Bentley\OpenTunnel Designer <product_version>\OpenTunnelDesigner\config\appl. In this file, they can add, remove, or filter country codes as needed.
- User selects one of the provided insertion point options : Interior Flange,
Center Line, Exterior Flange. Interior Flange refers to the flange that
faces toward the interior of the tunnel. Center Line refers to the center of
the steel shape. Exterior Flange refers to the flange that faces toward the
exterior of the tunnel.

- User defines section start offset i.e. the distance from the section start to the centerline of the first row of steel arches, section end offset i.e. the distance from the section end to the centerline of the last row of steel arches, number of rows and material for the selected reinforcements groups.
-
Placing Excavation Subspaces
- User selects the sections
for the placement. He has two options for the selection:
- Checking boxes one by one
- Using Pattern to select
multiple sections at once.

- The options available
in Selection Pattern dialog are:
Setting Description Start Section Index Used to define the first section that will be selected. End Section Index Used to define the last section that will be selected. Interval Used to define the number of sections that will not be selected between start and end sections. Calculate Used to calculate the selection according to the corresponding inputs and checkboxes. Cancel Used to exit the dialog without making any change.
- After giving the inputs, user saves them and clicks to data point to place reinforcements.
Note: The reinforcement will be placed only for
the active tunnel unit. Excavation subspaces and shotcrete (permanent wall&temporary
wall) can be attached to both conventional and TBM tunnels. Other reinforcement types can
only be attached to conventional tunnels.
