Define Profile by Slope from Point

Used to define a profile of an element by computing a slope from a 3D point.

You can access this tool from the following:

  • Ribbon: Geometry > Vertical > Element Profiles split button

Use the Define Profile by Slope from Point tool to define a profile of an element by computing a slope from a 3D point.

  1. Select the Define Profile by Slope from Point icon.

    • The Define Profile by Slope from Point dialog opens.

    • Checking the box next to any of the fields locks in the associated value.

  2. When you move the cursor into the View, it is equipped with a command prompt requesting that you "Locate First Element". data point, example, left-click on the element that you wish to give an elevation.

    • When you have finished selecting all of the desired elements, right-click in an empty area to end the selection phase of the command.

  3. When prompted to "Locate 3D Reference Point", move the cursor to the 3D point that will serve as a reference for the profile then data point.

  4. When prompted to provide the desired Slope, enter the value then strike the Enter key.

  5. When prompted to choose a Point Selection, navigate the options by striking the up or down arrow key then strike the Enter key. Options are:

    • All - the entire element is used for elevation determination

    • Vertices - elevations are computed only at the vertices of the element

    • Ends - elevations are computed only at the end points of the element

    • Centroid - elevation is computed only at the centroid

  6. When prompted to choose a Projection Option, navigate the options by striking the up or down arrow key then strike the Enter key. Options for point selection are:

    • Radial - the slope is projected from the point to the entire element using the point selection option above.

    • Through - the slope is projected from the point to the nearest point on the element and then the same slope is projected along the element.

  7. When prompted to choose a Profile Adjustment, navigate the options by striking the up or down arrow key then strike the Enter key. Options here are:

    • None - no adjustment is performed

    • Minimum - of the points used in previous step, select the minimum elevation and use this value for the entire profile

    • Maximum - of the points used in previous step, select the maximum elevation and use this value for the entire profile

  8. When prompted to provide the desired Vertical Offset, enter the value then strike the Enter key. The vertical offset is an added adjustment after all the above slope computations are completed.
