Place Point

Used to construct a civil point element.

You can access this tool from the following:

  • Ribbon: Geometry > Horizontal > Point split button

Place Point constructs a civil point element. The point tool places a cell or text based on a feature definition or a MicroStation point (zero length line) if no feature definition is used. The point can be placed in 2-D (X,Y) or 3-D (X,Y, elevation) in both 2D and 3D model views.

Geometry Points could have a 2D and 3D representation, and both would be in sync.

Points can be Absolute (no Constraints) and Relative (with Constraints).

  • Absolute Geometry Point- This will have simple X, Y, and Z point values in its properties(No constraints).
  • Relative Geometry Point - This could have several constraints, such as Location, Elevation, and Rotation Constraint to Sta-offset, Terrain, Mesh, Horizontal Alignment, and Vertical Profile.

Properties Dialog

  • Icons and Constraints will display in the properties dialog, for example
  • Example of how the Absolute Properties of a Point with Absolute Elevation and Absolute Rotation would be displayed in the properties dialog:

Example of how Relative Properties of a Point with Elevation Constraint to Terrain and Rotation Constrain to Alignment would be displayed in the properties dialog:

Geometry Point Snaps

Snaps will default to the origin of the geometry point when AccuSnap nears a Geometry Point with a civil command that will make a rule to that point (Origin snap with a rule displayed). This icon will also be displayed when the element that is ruled by that Geometry point is selected

If the persist snaps toggle is off on the Feature definition toolbar, the regular MSNT Accusnap is shown at placement, and that element will not be ruled to that Geometry Point.

If a snap to a particular location of a cell other than the origin of the geometry point is needed, using the Near Snap will allow one to get a precise snap to that location. However, this will not create a rule.

Geometry Point Manipulators

Rotation Manipulators will show the difference between Absolute vs Relative rotation. This difference will be shown in the 2D and 3D models and be editable in either model.

Absolute- Rotation Circle will display as a 360^ circumference while displaying the absolute angle or Bearing value

Figure 1. Absolute Ration

Relative- Rotation Circle will display the Rotation Offset angle value relative to the alignment.

Figure 2. Relative

An origin point manipulator is available in the 3D model when an elevation is defined. This manipulator can be used to manipulate the points XYZ location.

Manipulators

Use Power Selector to select the point created to see edit manipulators. For point elements, there is a single move point drag handle.

If Civil AccuDraw was used to place the point, the input would also be shown as manipulators.

Project Explorer and Properties

The point rule data is also accessible in the properties of the element.
