Analyze Pond

Used to trace a point downstream to a low point and fills it giving the volume, maximum depth, and maximum elevation.

You can access this tool from the following:

  • Ribbon: Terrain > Analysis > Hydraulic split button

The Pond Analysis tool traces a point downstream to a low point and fills it giving the volume, maximum depth, and maximum elevation. In addition, the pond delineation is graphically displayed.

Show Pond - When set to Active Pond, only one pond is created / analyzed. When set to All Ponds, all low points are tested and if a pond can be created meeting the Minimum Depth, then it is created / drawn. Hovering over a pond displays the Volume, Depth,and Elevation.

When the Descent Trace is toggled on. The descent trace (from the origin point specified by the user) to the pond is displayed, along with the pond outline. Elevation 1 is the elevation of the origin point on the terrain model, while Elevation 2 is the low point used to create the pond.

Workflow

1. Start the tool.

2. Select terrain model.

3. As cursor moves a trace path is shown as well as any pond found downstream from the cursor point.

4. Datapoint to persist the transient graphics as ruled elements.

The pond delineation is graphically displayed.

Description

Pond Volume

Traces a point downstream to a low point and fills it displaying the volume.

Depth

Traces a point downstream to a low point and fills it displaying the maximum pond depth.

Elevation

Traces a point downstream to a low point and fills it displaying the maximum surface elevation.

Filter:

Pond filter No filtering (does none)

Filter by Area - when selected, additional field included, Minimum Area (in master units). Software will only consider / display pond solutions larger than the user-specified area.

Filter by depth - when selected, additional field included, Minimum Depth (in master units). Software will only consider / display pond solutions with a depth grater or equal to the user-defined Minimum Depth.

Display All Ponds - when toggled on, all ponds within the terrain model are displayed. When toggled off, only a pond containing the current cursor location is displayed. Data point to draw the pond into the active file.
