Import 12da or 12 daz Files
The Import 12da/12daz File command will import 12d data into OpenRoads Designer as graphical elements or as civil geometry elements. The table below shows how the different data types are imported.
| Element type | 12da Data Type | OpenRoads Designer Data Type |
|---|---|---|
| Point | Super String with name prefix of P | 3D Points with item types |
| 3D Linear | Super String with attributes | 3D Lines/Linestring with item types |
| Vertex of 3D linear | Super String vertex attributes | 3D Point with item types |
| Text | Text | Text |
| Mesh | Trimesh | Mesh |
Filename: - Browse to select a “12da” or a “12daz” file. After the file is selected, the dialog will show the number models that the 12DA file contains.
Create New Mapping File – creates a new XLSX file with “Linear” and “Point” tabs which can be used to build a new mapping file. After the XLSX is created, Excel will be launched and the new mapping file will be opened.
- Feature Name: the name of the original element in the 12DA file.
- Feature Definition: the name of the Feature Definition to assign to the element (i.e. Alignment\Road\Geom_Baseline).
- ImportAsCivilElement: Yes or No to create a civil geometry element with associated profile for the element.
Mapping File: XLSX file that will map the 12DA name to an OpenRoads Designer feature definition. A default location for this file can be set using the CIVIL_DEFAULT_12DA_MAPPING_FILE variable. After the mapping file is opened, the dialog will report how many of mapped feature definitions will be imported as civil element, and how many will be imported as graphical elements
Settings/Import Attributes With Item Type: If toggled on, each attribute stored in the 12DA file will be imported and attached to the graphical element as an item type. An Item Types Library named “12d Attributes” will be created to store the attributes.
Settings/Activate Profile: For the items that will create civil geometry, this toggle tells the product to activate the profile. This setting helps to control the amount of time that the import commands takes as setting every profile active can possibly increase the time to import the elements.
Settings/Replace Null Elevation With: Any elements from the 12DA file that have the elevation set to “null” will be drawn at the elevation specified in this field.
If the import command is run in a 3D model, the 3D graphics are drawn in the current 3D model. For any elements marked to import as civil geometry, a new 2D model with its managed 3D model will be created to import these elements.
