Add Zone

Add Zone is a new feature that can utilize plain CAD graphics alternatively to a featured object. By adding CAD graphics or featured objects to a Zone, those objects can then be displayed in the Multi Profile Model. Zones are displayed relative the Primary profile in the Multi Profile Model.

Key-in: Geometry Zone Place

Ribbon: OpenRoads Modeling > Geometry > Vertical > Add Zone

Figure 1. Open Multiple Profile

If the element (to be part of a Zone) is a,

Featured object and it is selected in,

  • 3D model, its elevation will be considered in the Multi Profile Model
  • 2D model, its elevation will be set to zero.

CAD element,

  • 3D CAD graphics, its elevation will be considered in the Multi Profile Model
  • 2D CAD graphics will get an elevation of zero.

CAD graphics or featured objects, which are part of a Zone object, can be removed from the Zone using this tool. Removing CAD graphics or featured objects from the Zone will also remove the display of the Zone in the Multiple Profile model.

User Interface

The user interface has two options, Add and Remove. Selected elements will be added to a Zone or removed from the Zone.

Workflow

  1. Start the command.
  2. Select Add or Remove in the user interface.
  3. Select CAD elements and/or Featured objects.
  4. Reset when done.

Display Zone Object in Multiple Profile Models

To display the Zones in the Multiple Profile models, run Multiple Profile Settings command and check the toggle button Display Zones, located at the bottom of the dialog box. The text field defines a horizontal offset-range, any Zones located further away from the horizontal geometry will be ignored. The value is used to define both left- and right-offset.

Controlling Points of the Zones

The Zone objects are displayed in the Multiple Profile model by a start- and an endpoint. Those points are extracted from Zone object's elements (CAD graphics or featured objects) in two different scenarios,

  • If the Zone object intersects with the Primary profile
    • Intersection point's horizontal start/end-station and elevation of the lowest intersection point are used to define the position of the Zone in the Multiple Profile model.
  • If the Zone object is parallel with the Primary profile (not intersecting).
    • Zone's first and last point (stations), relative the Primary profile are used to define the position in the Multiple Profile model.

Explorer

A new tree node, Zones, is added in the OpenRoads/Rail Model group in Explorer. Elements added to a Zone will be shown.

  • Under a node containing a <Feature Definition Name>, in case the Zone object is featurized.
  • Or under a node called Not Featurized, in case the Zone elements are CAD graphics.
