Linear Annotation Group - Plan and Profile
Use Linear Annotation Groups to control where one or more Annotation Definitions are placed in plan and profile elements. This feature supports multiple location types, geometry points, and labeling options for flexible annotation placement.
Location
Defines where annotation instances are placed along an element. The following sub-options are available:
Increments
Use the Increments location option to place annotation definitions at specific intervals or positions along a civil element in plan view.
- Increments: Places an instance of the Annotation Definition at every
multiple of the input distance (in Master Units) along the element. Includes one
at the beginning of the element.
- Skip Value: Specifies a distance (in Master Units) where the Annotation Definition should not be drawn.
- Distance: Places a single instance of the Annotation Definition at the input value (in Master Units), measured from the beginning of the element.
- Percent: places a single instance of the Annotation Definition at the
input value, as a percentage of the element’s total length, measured from the
beginning.
- Example: an input of “0” would be the beginning of the element, an input of “45” would be at 45% of the element measured from the beginning.
Stations
Controls annotation placement based on stationing.
- Even Locked: if the station on the alignment is divisible by the value field, then an Annotation Definition instance is placed.
- Interval Unlocked: places an instance of the Annotation Definition at every multiple of the input distance, in Master Units, along the element. Includes one at the beginning of the element.
Horizontal Points
Annotations can be placed at the following horizontal geometry points:
- START – Start of element
- END – End of element
- PC – Point of Curvature
- PT – Point of Tangency
- TS – Tangent to Spiral
- CS – Curve to Spiral
- SC – Spiral to Curve
- ST – Spiral to Tangent
- POT – Point on Tangent
- PCC – Point of Compound Curvature
- PRC – Point of Reverse Curvature
- SCS – Spiral Compound Spiral
- SRS – Spiral Reverse-Spiral
- EQN – Station Equation
- POLY
- PHI – Point of Horizontal Intersection
- CENTER – 50%, or halfway, along the entire element
Vertical Points
Annotations can be placed at the following vertical geometry points:
- START – Start of vertical element
- END – End of vertical element
- VHP – Vertical High Point
- VLP – Vertical Low Point
- VPI – Vertical Point of Intersection
- VPC – Vertical Point of Curvature
- VPT – Vertical Point of Tangency
In Horizontal Components
Places the Annotation Definition in selected element types at the chosen location.
- Partial Option: Behaves like the Increments setting.
Curve Sets
Choose to annotate left, right, or both curve sets.
- Places an annotation at the selected location type.
Event Point List
Places annotations at each point listed in the Event Point List attached to the element.
Annotate Property
Options to annotate are Line, Cell, Text, and VPI Symbology. This tells the Annotation Definition which of the following settings to use draw.
Symbol Property
Controls the graphical symbol used for annotation. This enables an optional leader line with multiple options for terminators.
- Arrow
- Circle
- Square
- Triangle
The template option allows the selection of an element template to control symbology.
Placement Property
The "placement" property sets the location of the label relative to the "where" property and includes:
- Rotation options
- Vertical offset options
- Horizontal offset options
- Perpendicular offset options
- Tangential offset options
Line Property
The "line" property sets the length of the line when the line option is selected to be drawn.
Cell Property
One of the Annotate choices. The "cell" property sets the cell name, scale, and application of the active cell scale.
Activated when the type of label is set to "Cell".
Text Property
One of the Annotate choices. Sets annotation text favorites and properties.
- Activated when the Label property is set to "Text".
- Annotation Behavior: Previously called “Manage Modifications”
Label (new in 2025)
Uses Civil Labeler logic and properties to manage annotation definitions.
VPI Symbology
Specific settings for VPI annotations.
