Import Cant Points
Imports cant points using applied cant and design speed values defined in a file. Import uses the standard Text Import Wizard. The format of the file is station, design speed, applied cant. The design speed is either kmph or mph, applied cant is either millimeters or inches.
To import cant points, ensure that cant is first created on the geometry. Cant points can be imported for the entire alignment or specific sections. You can import cant points multiple times.
When cant points are imported, all existing calculated points within the extent of the imported points are automatically set to disabled unless they fall within the station tolerance range (see also Disable Cant Point). Points outside the extent of the imported region are unaffected by the import process. The Active Cant property of imported points is set to User. Using station tolerance to update existing cardinal point cant values allows for modifying the underlying geometry without losing imported cant values. When geometry changes, cardinal points update their stations while retaining their user-defined cant values.
Speed values are also imported into the relevant speed table when cant is imported. Speed values are grouped based on the change of speed on the cant points, and sections are created in the speed table.
Cant import process works similarly when cant is imported as part of whole geometry import (See also Import Geometry).
Station Tolerance: Allows defining a station range for searching existing cardinal points. If a cardinal point is found in the given tolerance range, instead of creating a new cant point, the existing point is updated with the new cant value and Active cant is set to User (calculated cant value is retained in the Calculated cant field).
Example:
Station Tolerance: 1.000
Updated Cant Values After Import
Updated Speed Table
In the example, existing cardinal point at station 315.450 is out of tolerance for any of the imported cant points, but still in the cant import range (0.000 to 318.400). As a result, point is disabled and a new point is created for the station 318.400 defined in the text file.
Speed values are grouped based on the change from 50 km/h to 70 km/h and a new speed section is created between stations 150.610 and 318.400.
You can show/hide disabled points using Show/Hide Disabled Cant Points option. Please also see Dialog Options.
