Open Design Calculator

You can access this dialog from the following:

Ribbon: OpenRail Modeling > Miscellaneous

The purpose of this dialog is to determine radius, spiral length, and transition type for curve sets in the horizontal alignment. For more details on the formulas used in the calculations, see the Cant Point Properties topic.

Design Calculator can be accessed using Rail>Miscellaneous>Open Design Calculator button in the ribbon,

or using any radius field in the geometry by clicking the 3 dots.

Behavior of the design calculator is different based on where it is started from. When started form the ribbon as a standalone dialog it displays Copy to Clipboard controls, for copying the calculated results for later use.

If calculator is started through a radius field, you instead get Apply/Cancel commands.

In this case, when Apply is clicked, the calculated speed and radius values can be directly written back to the parent dialog (radius field) and to the related speed table, if available. (see Speed Table Integration). Software does not directly write the applied cant values (that is to create fixed cant, see Cant Point Types), as these are automatically calculated in the cant editor based on the determined speed and radius values.

Design Calculator works as follows: After you have specified the Define By field, key in any of the relevant values, then press the tab key to see the results of the computation (the computed cant values in the lower portion of the dialog box). As you change the data in the dialog box, the software automatically recomputes all parameters. Then based on where you started the dialog, you can either copy the results or hit Apply to post results to the parent dialog.
