Virtual Instruments and Tag Replication
|
- Virtual
Instruments
When designing a PID there are situations
in which you want to account for additional instruments in a bill of materials
that you don't have room to show in the PID diagram itself. In such cases, you
now have the ability to define
virtual instruments
that are associated with an existing instrument shown in the
PID without having to place these instruments in the PID itself. Syncing the
drawing will sync the tags of these virtual instruments to PlantSight so that
they can be reported on.
- Tag
Replication
It's very common for certain processes to
be repeated within a plant. Now you can save a lot of design time by drawing a
process once and replicating it several times. You no longer need to draw it
separately for each occurrence. The
tag replication
creates additional incremented tags for each item that was selected in order to
ensure an accurate BOM is created when the drawing is synced to PlantSight.

New
Components and Component Types
|
- New
Instrument Panel Component
We have introduced a new Panel Component
that can be used to house instruments which will inherit the associated items
and properties assigned to the Panel. If you drag an instrument inside a panel
it will adopt the properties of the panel.
- New
Inline Class for Filters / Strainers
A new inline class
was added that breaks the pipeline/piperun like a valve to support components
like filters and strainers. These components were also added to the component
gallery:

Support for Horizontal Oriented Reports
|
When placing
In Drawing Reports
you can now configure those reports to transpose the rows and columns to create
horizontally oriented reports like this:
The setting is found here:
|
Enhanced Instrument Loop drafting workflows
|
The following
enhancements were made to
instrument loops
:
- Instruments you
add to an existing loop will now automatically adopt the loop number so that
the tags are consistently indicating that the instruments belong to that loop.
- When selecting a
Device Type Code for an instrument you can now select
"FC Flow Control" as an option from the
pick list.
|
Enhanced Piping Tools
|
- Change pipe run to a new
pipeline
This new tool gives you the ability to
quickly change an existing pipe run's pipeline to a new pipeline that doesn't
exist on the drawing by allowing you to create the new pipeline on the fly.
To Change an Existing
Pipe Run to a New Pipeline.
- Change Pipe Run's
Pipeline
We reversed the workflow of the existing
Change Pipe Run's Pipeline tool so that it prompts you to first select the pipe
run you want to change and then select the desired pipeline to assign it to so
that it follows a more logical flow.
- Place
Pipe Run
The Place Pipe Run tool no longer requires a
physical connection to an existing pipeline on the drawing. If you end the pipe
run without connecting it physically to an existing pipeline it will prompt you
with a dialog to browse to an existing pipeline in the drawing to associate
with the pipe run so that you can create pipe runs for vents, drains and
instrument connections on pumps and tanks more easily.
To Create a
Non-Contiguous Pipe Run
- Flow
Arrows
We changed the default location for flow
arrows so that the tip of the arrow is placed at the vertex of any change in
direction of the pipeline in our out of the box schemas since that has been the
generally preferred location for most users.
- Link
pipelines between drawings without page connectors
You can now continue the same pipeline
created on one drawing onto another drawing by using the Browse Pipeline
feature in the Pipeline Tag Creation dialog to link the new pipeline you are
creating to one that was placed on another drawing without the use of a page
connector.
Note: This
will always result in the creation of a new pipe run on the second drawing. If
you need to continue the same pipe run you must use a page connector.
- New
Display Toggle in Tag Browser dialog
A new three way toggle button was added to
the
Tag Browser
to
allow you to filter the list of instances based on these options:
- Show all
instances
- Show only
instances placed in documents
- Show
Instances not placed in any document
|
Enhanced Drafting and Tagging Workflows
|
-
A new
Edit right click context menu item
was added whenever you right click on an equipment, instrument, or pipeline
that enables you to open the corresponding Edit dialog to make changes to the
selected item's tag and properties.
-
Right Click Context Menu now displays P&ID icons
We now display icons for the right click
context menu for P&ID commands as shown here:
-
Nozzle Annotation
The default annotation for nozzles was
changed to match the configuration documented in the following WIKI so that a
calculated nozzle tag such as V-001-N1 will only show N1 after placement:
https://communities.bentley.com/products/plant/w/plant_design_and_engineering__wiki/27467/how-to-automatically-annotate-nozzle-tag-after-placement
- Page
Connectors
- You now have
the ability to utilize and link different page connector symbols in cases where
your annotation might have different text justification depending on whether it
is an incoming or outgoing connector. Refer
to the following documentation to configure this:
to Use Proxy Class to Link Page
Connectors with Different Classes
-
When you right click on Page Connectors
and select
"To From Data" from the menu you now
get a new dialog that graphically shows the connection information and allows
you to view the property data of the To From connections and even navigate to
the related document.
Page Connectors Info dialog
-
Renamed Drawing Tool to Document Settings
We renamed the
"Drawing" tool in the ribbon menu that
displayed the P&ID Document dialog to
"Document Settings" to better describe
the functionality found in the dialog.

Simplified Project Reuse Workflows
|
- Reusing Existing Document
We simplified and clarified the workflow
and user experience when attempting to reuse existing drawings in new design
projects to ensure that the most appropriate action is taken. Now if you copy
or move a document into a WorkSet you will be prompted with this new File
Conflict Resolution dialog when you open the file:
Opening a moved or copied
drawing
The software will compare the path and
filename stored within the document with the current WorkSet to offer the best
recommendation for what action you should take which includes these
possibilities:
- Add New
Document and retain GUIDs
- Add New
Document and create new GUIDs
- Rename
Document
Each option is explained in the dialog
itself and additional explanations are given as to how the software arrived at
the decision it did. If you disagree with the chosen option you can enable all
options using the toggle at the lower left of the dialog and change the
selected option as you desire.
As part of this workflow you may also be
presented with the PlantSight Project Storage Discrepancy dialog if the
associated PlantSight Project differs from the one stored with the document. We
simplified and clarified the options in this dialog as shown here:
You can choose between the current WorkSet's
configuration, continue to use the configuration stored with the document or
work in offline mode disconnected from
OpenPlant PID .
- New
Documents Inherit Plant Breakdown Structure from PlantSight
When your project is connected to
PlantSight and you create a new document it will now change the default plant
breakdown structure properties that are set to a default value of
"none" to the first value found in
PlantSight to ensure you have a valid default value
-
Ability to update/restore deleted annotation
If you remove any of the predefined
component annotations and want to restore them you can now execute the key-in:
pid annotation
recreate to restore this default annotation without
needing to delete and replace the component again.
To Recreate Deleted

PlantSight Integration and Synchronization Enhancements
|
The following enhancements were made to the way
OpenPlant PID integrates with and synchronizes data with PlantSight :
New Keyins allow you to create pre-configured
ribbon buttons which set the synchronization direction between
OpenPlant PID and PlantSight as shown here:
- DGN to
PlantSight:
