Splitters
Splitters setup defines the different fiber split and MUX devices that can be used in the OpenComms fiber network data model. Open the Fiber Splitters setup dialog by clicking on File > OpenComms Settings > OSP – Fiber > Splitters to display the following setup dialog:
Editing a Splitter or MUX Model
- In the WDM Splitters Definitions dialog, choose the model of splitter or MUX to be modified.
- Modify any attributes of the
splitter or Mux.
Note: By default, the Common and first output port occupy the same tray position under Connections Manual in the XSection Connection dialog. If desired, the Common can be defined to utilize a separate tray position by selecting the Ports+1 option in the splitter definitions dialog. By selecting this option, all output ports will have their own tray position and an additional tray port will be grayed out and reserved for the Common. (See below.)
- Select Update in the lower left corner of the WDM Splitters Definitions dialog to save changes in the spec file.
Creating a Splitter or MUX Model
- In the Database section of the WDM Splitters Definitions dialog, populate Model, Manufacturer, number of ports and Cost.
- Select Add in the lower left corner of the WDM Splitters Definitions dialog so that the new model appears in the Splitter list.
- Once the device is added, select the new device from the Splitter List.
- In the Ports section of the WDM Splitters Definitions dialog, select the first port beneath the Common port and define a name for the port.
- Choose a wavelength to assign to the port, if applicable.
- Choose a fiber color to represent the fiber strand associated with the output port.
- Populate a length for the fiber strand associated with the port being modified. (The Length property is defined as a unit. this means that if a user has a project defined as M/MM, a unit will equal 1 meter if added to the port as 1.00.)
- Populate a default loss value in db for the port being modified. Losses associated with ports on a Splitter device are calculated when the OpenComms Engineering Calculation tools are used.
- Select Save once the port has been modified and follow the same steps for the remaining ports on the device.
- Once all ports have been modified on the device and saved, select Update in the lower left corner of the WDM Splitters Definitions dialog to apply the new device definition.
