Map Management

Use the Map Manager to manipulate feature information from all supported geospatial file formats. Attach files and features from any of the supported graphical sources and manage their display in a common user interface.

Map Manager is an interface for interacting with and manipulating feature display. The Map Definition can be created and stored in a MicroStation Design, Drawing or Sheet Model, or it can be stored in a self-contained Map Model. The Map definition stores map-specific information (such as symbology overrides, thematic maps, buffers, and overlays) to be stored separately from the user data. It is convenient to store the Map definition with the actual data queried from the spatial database. That way, features such as thematic mapping and labeling are easily available while editing the data. This is not the case when using Make Active for Edit.

Definitions:

Map Definition: This element is saved in a MicroStation model. Only one Definition can be saved per model. The Map Definition includes symbology overrides, thematic definitions, layer display control. As a description, it also stores features like buffers and overlays created while using Map Manager.

Map Model: This is a MicroStation design model that includes a Map Definition.

Note: Map Definitions are automatically added to new map models when created using the Create New Map Definition tool. Map Definitions can be deleted and re-created from the active model using the provided tools in the Map Manager.
