Dynamic Views Workflow Summary

Generally during the design thought process, we tend to think of the 3D Building model and then our thoughts move on to floor plans, sections, elevations, and details. In essence, a floor plan is a horizontal cut through the Building model with a view orientation of looking “down” upon the model. The basic concept is to cut a floor plan through the Building model, then create a 2D Drawing Model. Next we use the 2D Drawing Model to create additional 2D sections, elevations, and enlarged plan view areas called details.

Since Dynamic Building Views support Drawing Resymbolization, they are commonly used for creating construction drawings. The following steps illustrate this workflow.

  1. Compose the 3D model by referencing all models into one Master Model. Typically, this is an empty 3D Design Model (a container) that includes 3D Design Models referenced in from all the individual disciplines.

From the Composition Model, Building Views for Floor and Ceiling plans are defined, created, and stored in Explorer.

  2. Set up and store the Floor Plan Building View definitions in the drawing models. Use the Presentation tools to modify the drawings appearance, using Building View Attributes.
  3. In a Floor Plan Drawing Model, place Section, Elevation, and Detail callouts to generate the other Building dynamic views.
  4. Set up and store additional plan based views such as Ceiling plans and Roof Plans. This should be done in the 3D Master Model and not in 2D Drawing Models.
  5. Create the Sheets and attach the Drawing Models in the sheet(s) as scaled references, using Explorer.

Dragging and dropping Drawing Models to the Sheet opens the Attach Reference dialog. Here you can set the scale and create a drawing title for the sheet.
