Constraints Ribbon

Constraints Tab

Please note to contextualize tools the Constraints tab only appears in OpenBuildings Designer ribbons when creating cell content, The intention is to reduce interface complexity.

Constraints tab will be visible when the active model properties include 'Can be placed as a Cell'.

2D

  • Auto Constrain
  • Identifies the existing constraints and relationships implied by the construction of the geometry, and highlights them.
  • Parallel
  • Used to apply parallel constraint between two linear segments or ellipses.
  • Perpendicular
  • Used to apply perpendicular constraint between two linear segments or entities.
  • Coincident
  • Used to constrain linear or circular segments or vertices in such a way that they pass through a single point.
  • Tangent
  • Used to constrain curves to be tangent to other curves or linear segments.
  • Fixed
  • Fixes the end points and direction of a linear segment or the center point of a circular element to its current position in the plane.
  • Concentric
  • Used to constrain arcs, circles, ellipses, or vertices to have the same center point.
  • Equal
  • Used to constrain the length of linear segments or entities and radii of circular segments or entities to resize to the same measurement.
  • Show DOF
  • Used to display the number of linear and rotary movements, a profile element is free to take, along x, y or z axis.
  • Remove All
  • Used to remove all geometric and dimensional constraints from a selected element.

Dimensional

  • By Element
  • Used to add a dimension to a profile element.
  • Distance
  • Used to constrain the distance between two profile elements or between the two end points of a profile to a set value.
  • Angle
  • Used to constrain the angle between two segments to a fixed value.
  • Equal Distance
  • Used to make the perpendicular distance between three or more co-planar profile segments equal.
  • Area
  • Used to constrain the area of a geometry.
  • Perimeter
  • Used to constrain the perimeter of a geometry.
  • Variables
  • Used to create and manage variables and variations for the active model.

3D

  • Parallel
  • Used to apply parallel constraint between the edges or faces of two 3D elements.
  • Perpendicular
  • Used to apply perpendicular constraint between the edges or faces of two 3D elements.
  • Coincident
  • Used to constrain the faces, edges or vertices of 3D elements to be coincident.
  • Tangent
  • Used to constrain a circular 3D element to be tangent to other circular or rectangular 3D elements.
  • Fixed
  • Used to fix the linear and rotary movement of a 3D element.
  • Concentric
  • Used to constrain the faces, edges, or vertices of two 3D elements to be concentric.
  • 3D Dimension
  • Used to constrain the distance between the vertices, edges, or faces of one 3D element to another 3D element's vertices, edges, or faces.
