Keypoints Enabled in Mechanical Building Designer

Mechanical discipline components vary greatly in appearance and complexity. All components contain a number of keypoints enabled for associative dimensioning. The number varies depending upon the geometry and the component type. The following table illustrates the keypoint variations among components.

Note: Please note color coded keypoint glyphs illustrated in the following table are for reference only and do not appear in any Building applications.
Member/Section Type Building/Default Keypoints
Duct and Pipe

Round, rectangular and oval shaped duct linear components. HVAC round duct and Plumbing pipe behave similarly.

Three sets of keypoints at ends and mid point: 9 keypoints per set.
  • Blue dots – Top, bottom, left and right justifications: 24 total keypoints.
  • Red dots – Center line (includes connect points): 3 total keypoints
Elbows

Rectangular, round and oval shaped elbows. HVAC round and Plumbing elbows behave similarly.

Keypoints on connect points and center line intersection: 3 total keypoints.
  • Blue dots – Center line intersection located on center line plane.
  • Red dots – Connect points.
Fittings and Devices

Random fittings: Tee (3 connect points) & cross (4 connect points)

Keypoints on connect points only.
  • Red dots – Connect points.
Tip: Situations may occur where keypoint snaps are required on plain geometry instead of Mechanical discipline component keypoints and connect points. To disable the behavior described in the table above, a preference is added to the Building Designer tab of the Preferences dialog.
