OpenBuildings™ Designer Help

To create a New roof design from a blank model

  1. Click the Roofs icon.

The Roofs dialog opens. Your project building name appears on the Building drop-down list.

  2. Click New.

The Add New Roof dialog appears.

  3. In the Add New Roof dialog, enter a description for the new roof design.
  4. In the Add New Roof dialog, enter a Height value equal to the highest elevation in your building (on the top floor).
Tip: It is not required to browse to an existing roof model to create a new roof design. You can click OK without specifying a Drawing and Model, and continue designing.
  5. Click OK.

The roof design tools are enabled.

  6. Use tools in the Roofs, Create Roof Element and Modify Roof Element ribbon groups to create a detailed roof design.
  7. Click the Setup icon in the Roofs group of tools.

The Set up roofs for building dialog opens with the building floors listed in the Floor column.

  8. Find the floor you want the roof design to be associated to. Select the roof design you specified in the Add New Roof dialog from the corresponding drop-down list (Roof column).
  9. Click OK.

The new roof design is established. The project is automatically saved, and the new roof appears on the OpenBuildings Energy Simulator Project Tree.

Note: There is a short pause while the project is saved. A pop up dialog appears with the save time at the end of the process.
