To Create Cross Bolting connection

All straight standard shapes and polyplates are supported, except for arced shapes and arced polyplates. When using shapes other than standard shapes, the obtained result may not be as expected. Only existing bolt styles are available, there is no link to the bolt style generator from within the Cross Bolting dialog. Only normal/through holes are supported.

  1. Select ( Cross Bolting).
    Select the connecting members, as prompted:
    • select supporting member: Select a shape or polyplate in the view as supporting member.
    • select connecting member(s): After the supporting member is selected, then select one or more connecting member(s) individually; or multiple using the Ctrl key pressed or with a crossing window.
    Member in an invalid orientation would be dropped from selection; for example, a message prompting "selected plate did not have the same Z orientation as the first selected ones, hence it is dropped" appear in the message center.
  2. Assess the selection.
    If no pairs are found, disable pair mode. If required, repeat the desired members selection.
  3. Select the insertion point on the geometry in the view.
    The Cross Bolting dialog opens. Use the dialog settings to specify parameters or load a template.
  4. Set the desired value to the geometry and drilling/bolting settings.
    Accept parameters or modify then accept
  5. Click .

    The selected cross bolting connection is updated in the model.

How drilling direction is defined?

The below table illustrates how the drilling direction is calculated:

Shape Polyplate
Support Shape The drilling direction is the cross product between both shapes Z orientation. If the shapes have the same Z orientation and aligned centerlines, the drilling direction is either the X or Y orientation of one of the shapes. The drilling direction is the Z orientation of the connecting polyplate.
Polyplate The drilling direction is the Z orientation of the supporting polyplate. The drilling direction is the Z orientation of the supporting polyplate.
