To place a balanced cantilever build of segments at a
bridge pier, use the following procedure.
You must use an
existing segment template. You must have at least one supportline present in
your model.
The balanced
cantilever method of construction is modeled so that the build order can be set
for analytical software, such as
RM Bridge.
-
Either:
On the
Home ribbon tab, select the
tool in the
Superstructure group
or
key in
bmgeom
segmental
placebalance
-
In the
Place Cantilever Segmental tool
settings dialog, select the segment template to use:
-
Click
[…] adjacent to the
Template Name setting.
The
Template Selection dialog
opens.
-
In the
Standard Templates list, select the
template name to use.
-
Click
OK.
- (Optional)
Type an integer in the
Build Order field.
Tip: The
Build Order number is incremented
automatically from the highest previously placed build order number for the
bridge when you place a balanced cantilever.
-
Specify the length of different segment types that can be placed:

Series of segments in the balanced
cantilever |
Type a one or more N@L (number of segments at
each length) values in the
Seg. Length field. The ahead and back
station cantilevers can be different arrangements of typical segments.
A vertical bar ("|") is used to differentiate the segments for back and ahead
stations, in that order. A space ("
") is used to vary segment lengths within the back or
ahead balanced cantilevers.
|
Optional pier segment |
Type a length or two lengths separated by a
colon (":") in the
Pier Seg Length field. |
Optional cast-in-place segment at ends of
the cantilevers |
Type a length in the
CIP Length field. |
- (Optional)
Specify additional settings such as offsets.
- (Optional)
Clear the
Add Constraints check box if no additional
placement constraints are required for this segment.
Tip: You
can add constraints over the entire bridge unit length after all balanced
cantilever builds are placed from the
Project Explorer window.
-
In the view window, do the following:
-
Data point on a supportline.
-
Data point again to accept.
If you checked the
Add Constraints option, then the
Solid Constraints Definition dialog
opens.
-
Specify any necessary point or variable constraints along the deck
and then click
Apply.
The balanced
cantilever is added on the selected supportline.
You can continue to place balanced cantilevers at supportlines to
complete the model of your bridge. When complete, you will need to add closure
pours between the cantilever ends.
