Place Custom Abutment tool

Used to place custom abutment elements from a cell library on existing pier lines.

Found on the Home ribbon tab in the Substructure group.

To place a custom abutment on existing pier lines, data point on supportlines to add them to the selection group. Reset to accept the selection set and the custom abutment objects are placed.

To place a cell as a custom abutment, use this option. The cells can be modeled by the user for re-use and come from any .cel file. Sample path C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenBridge Modeler CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Imperial Standards\Standards\Template Library\PierCellLib.cel

Analytical Properties can also be specified for transfer to RM Bridge, LEAP Bridge Concrete, or LEAP Bridge Steel.

Tool Settings

SettingDescription
Cell Click the […] button to open the Select Cell dialog, which is used to select a cell from the MicroStation cell library …\WorkSpace\Standards\templates\PierCellLib.cel. Click Close when you have completed your selection.
Note: The Type value will display the detected type of cell selected.
Active Angle Type an angle to rotate the cell object in plan.
X- / Y- / Z- Scale Type scale factors in each of the three axes to stretch the cell in that direction.
Horizontal Offset Type an offset length along the supportline direction.
Note: Positive is to the right when looking up station.
Vertical Offset Vertical Offset is measured from an imaginary line drawn connecting the bottom left and right key points of the deck. In the case there are beams and bearings, OpenBridge Modeler will automatically find the lowest bearing bottom point and measure the offset from it.
SupportLine Offset Type a offset value to place the pier away from the supportline. This direction is taken perpendicular to the supportline.
Cap Length Adjustment Select either:
  • None — the default cap length set in the library template is used
  • By Deck — the cap length is automatically adjusted to the deck width
  • By Skew — the cap length is automatically adjusted for the skew
  • By Deck and Aligned — the cap length is automatically adjusted to the deck width and the horizontal offset computed so as to align with deck
Analytical Properties Set this option to specify analytical values to include for analysis data. Additional options for the following analytical values are then enabled:
  • Cap — Cap length, height, and width
  • Column — Column number, heigh, and diameter
  • Footing — Footing length, height, and width
  • Pile — Pile number, height, and diameter
Material group Select the material to use for object components by selecting the associated […] button and then selecting the material from the Material Library dialog.
Build Order group Assign a build order (ordinal integer) to each object component in this group to specify construction order.
Feature group

Feature Definition Select an existing feature definition from the drop-down list to use for object being placed.
Name Prefix Type a prefix value to use for all objects set using this Feature Definition, which are useful in quickly identifying features in a group.
