Main Bar Defaults

Used to set main bar and stirrups preferences.

Accessed from:
  • Ribbon: Concrete > Drawing Production > Rebar Defaults > Main Bar Defaults > Main Bar Defaults

When 2D Rebar draws the centerline of a reinforcing bar, the location of any centerline is initially calculated in accordance with the default cover and bar diameter. Development lengths (used when lapping with other reinforcement) are calculated in accordance with the default bar diameter, default cover and concrete strength. Longitudinal (transverse) reinforcement is placed initially at the default longitudinal bar spacing using the default longitudinal bar diameter. The bar is finally annotated using the text with the default text color, font and height.

Note: When placement of any new bar begins, the Main Bar Defaults are immediately loaded into the bar as attributes to that bar. From that moment on, they are referred to as Main Bar Attributes and can be modified at any stage during the detailing process, thereby allowing you to override their current "default" values. Although all new bars always start with the same initial Main Bar Defaults, they might eventually be saved with completely different Main Bar Attributes. These attributes can only be changed while placing or modifying a bar.

General tab

This tab includes defaults for all other forms of reinforcement except Spirals. The defaults within this category apply to main bars in section, as well as range bars in plan and elevation.

SettingDescription
Color / Weight / Style 2D Rebar automatically maintains color, line weight and line style of your reinforcement details. These attributes relate to the centerline of bars only. The color, weight and style are applied independently of your normal symbology settings. You can select them in the traditional manner.

All three of these parameters are ignored if your reinforcement resides on a Layer where Symbology is activated. As discussed previously in this section, in this situation, the color, weight and style for reinforcement on such a Layer is extracted from Level Symbology table.

Note: When bars are drawn in "Full Size", their color, weight, and style are also controlled by the display.sys parameters CSTY, MFUL, and LFUL.
Ignore Level Symbology When checked, the Rebar ignores the Layer symbology settings (set within the Level Defaults dialog) and reverts back to this Main Bar Defaults dialog for the required color, weight and style.
Use Construction Elements When checked, all main bar elements are created Construction Class attributes. They disappear from view when Constructions option is deactivated in the View Attributes. When unchecked, all main bar elements adopt the Primary Class attribute.
Full Size When checked, draws the bars in size full length.
Filled Enabled for Full Size. When checked, the main bar can be set to filled.

Stirrups tab

This tab includes a set of main bar defaults used when detailing closed reinforcement (i.e., reinforcement incorporating a splice). The defaults in this category apply only to bars in Section created by the closed-bar detailing options.

Most of the settings in the Stirrups tab are as contained in the General Tab. They are supplied again in this category, for Stirrups, because often stirrups are detailed with different diameters, colors, and weights etc., than general reinforcement. These defaults are completely independent of those in the General category and applied to every new four-sided, five-sided or circular stirrup when first created.
