You can access this tool from the following:

  • Ribbon: Geometry > Horizontal > Spirals split button

Spiral From Element constructs a spiral from a previously placed element, using this base element to determine tangency at one end.

This tool provides clothoid spirals only. Other spiral-like transitions such as Bloss, etc. are not supported.

Workflow

  1. Click Spiral From Element. The Spiral From Element dialog displays. Any of the inputs can be locked in the dialog at any time. Locking some values may limit or otherwise affect the other values.

  2. Select the element to construct the spiral from. Use a data point, example, left-click to accept. Base elements can be any element; line, arc, spiral, or complex.

  3. Select the offset distance from the element. This can be selected graphically with the mouse or keyed in.

  4. Specify the starting point. This is the distance along the base element where the spiral will start.

  5. Key in the radius and length for the spiral. This is a double prompt. Enter the radius at end of spiral then strike the right arrow key to input the spiral length.
