To import civil geometry

To import roadway alignment and other civil engineering geometry data from an external file, use the following procedure.

If you have an external civil geometry file from Bentley GEOPAK (file extension .gpk), Bentley InRoads (file extension .alg), or LandXML (file extension .xml), you can import portions or all of the data to use as the alignment for your bridge models.
  1. Either:

On the Home ribbon tab, select the Import > Geometry tool in the Bridge Setup group

    or

On the Civil ribbon tab, select the Import/Export > Import Geometry tool in the General Tools group

    or

    key in bmimp import geometry

    The Import Geometry dialog opens.
  2. Navigate to and select the civil geometry file you want to import and then click Open. The Import Geometry dialog opens. The geometry database is queried and a checklist displays.
  3. Expand the tree to check the portions of the file you want to include in the data import.

Previously imported elements will show as checked if the import command is run again.

  4. (Optional) Check the Create Rules box to apply rules to the elements as they are imported and are thus editable with manipulators. When the box is cleared, the elements are imported as plain graphics.
Note: Some imported geometry cannot be ruled. See Import Horizontal Geometry and Import Vertical Geometry.
  5. Click Import.
The selected civil data is imported into your project.
