Understanding Parts and Views

Before you begin the detailing process, it is helpful to understand what type of 2D drawing you want to create.

Placing Drawings - Views

If you are creating placing drawings for cast in place elements, you will be working with views. A view is simply a portion of the drawing—such as a section or member—defined for the purpose of viewing your model or creating a 2D drawing.

  • Default views are automatically created and named based on your work frame grid line intersections.
  • You can create and name your own custom views in the Location Center by drawing work frame boundaries.

Precast and Assembly Instructions - Parts

If you are creating assembly instructions, such as for a precast member, you will be working with parts. A part is a specific object on the drawing.

  • The program inherently understands three basic parts on a concrete model: Concrete, Rebar Cage, and Individual Rebars.
  • Typically, you will run positioning to assign identifiers to your parts.
