Place Approach Slab

To place an Approach Slab at the start or end of a bridge use the following procedure.

You must use an existing deck template. Your model must have Approach Reference Lines defined before placing an Approach Slab.

  1. On the Home ribbon tab, select the Place Approach Slab tool in the Approach Slab group.
  2. Location, select either start or end of bridge.
  3. (Optional) Sync with Deck, uses the same template as deck and aligns all offsets.
  4. In the Place Approach Slab tool settings dialog, select the template to use.
  5. (Optional) Specify additional settings such as Start or End Station Offsets.
  6. (Optional) Horizontal Offset, transverse offset if any.
  7. (Optional) Vertical Offset Deck, input offset at the deck end of the approach slab.
  8. (Optional) Vertical Offset Sleeper Slab, input offset at the free or sleeper slab end of the approach slab.
  9. (Optional) Specify deck breakback offset distances for the left and right sides at start and end of deck. The breakback distance is measured normal to the edge of slab. Deck breakbacks are squared ends at skewed supports.
  10. (Optional) Clear the Add Constraints check box if no additional placement constraints are required.
  11. (Optional) Sleeper Slab, check this box if a sleeper slab placement dialog should be shown following the data point.
  12. In the view window, data point to accept, and see the approach slab solid placed.

If you checked the Add Constraints option, then the Solid Constraints Definition dialog opens.

  13. (Optional) Specify any necessary point or variable constraints along the deck and then click Apply.
  14. If variable constraints are being specified, the template tab shows the effect of the variations defined at user defined distance (use the slider or enter cross section distance).

While a 3D Approach Slab object is placed following the vertical profile elevation, a 2D deck layout (decoration) is placed at elevation 0 in the model. This 2D layout is updated whenever the Approach Slab object is changed, and the line work has the necessary features associated to place it on a separate Level.
