Beam Reinforcing - Longitudinal Reinforcing tab

Used to enter values that define a single reinforcement cage for a concrete beam.

The cross section displays the main reinforcing bars. Clicking a bar in the section when a rebar type is selected in the right table will use this bar type for this bar.
SettingDescription
Zone Data
  • Label – Type a string used to identify the main (longitudinal) bar. Each label must be unique for the beam.
  • Location – Sets the beam face along which this reinforcing zone is aligned; selected one among the options: Top, Bottom, Left, or Right.
  • Quantity – Sets the number of bars present in this zone.
  • Clearance – Sets the distance from the clear distance border (as specified on the Beam Defaults tab) to the layer of reinforcement, parallel to the Location face. This can be used to create multiple layers of reinforcement along a Location, as each layer represents a zone.
  • Start / End Offsets – Sets The distance from the clear distance border (as specified on the Beam Defaults tab) to the first bar / last bar in this zone, perpendicular to the Location face.
Reinforcing Data
  • Label – Sets the reinforcing label to bar.
  • Location – Select the beam face along which this reinforcing zone is aligned. Sets the beam face along which this reinforcing zone is aligned; selected one among the options: Left, Right, or Continuous.
  • Quantity – Displays the total number of bars of the selected type. This field will be automatically updated based on the number of bars specified by clicking in the cross section review.
  • Bar Size – Select the size of the bar from the list.
  • Remarks – Type a string used for informational purposes only. This value can be included in the label.
Left / Right Offset The distance from the left end / right end of the rebar cage to the end of the beam.
Note: A positive value extends the rebar beyond the end of the concrete beam, and a negative moves the end of the rebar inwards away from the beam end.
End Conditions The following descriptions apply to all start and end options.

Type – Select the type of end condition for each position:

  • Bend – A hook end.
  • Hook – Two 90° bends, creating a hooked parallel leg.
  • Crank – Offset bar
  • 90 Degree Hook – Same as a Bend, but with the angle set at 90°.
  • 135 Degree Hook – Same as a Bend, but with the angle set at 135°.
  • 135 Degree Seismic Hook – Same as a 135 Degree Hook, but with the lengths specified for seismic detailing.
  • 180 Degree Hook – Same as a Bend, but with the angle set at 180°. Or, a hook with a single bend.
  • Projection – Additional straight length.
  • User – User-entered condition with two bends.
Tip: For additional details, Working With End Conditions.
Rotation Type a rotation angle (in degrees). Click to rotate the bar by increments of 90 degrees.
Edit End Condition Values When you select an end condition type, the standard values and angle are applied. If necessary, click Edit End Condition Values to enter custom end condition settings. See Rebar End Properties dialog.
Status Indicates if you have used standard or user-defined end conditions.
Adds a new line to the corresponding table and clears the controls in the editing area allowing a new longitudinal reinforcement zone or bar to be entered.
Deletes the current line from the corresponding table.
