To place a beam layout

To place a beam layout between pier lines, use the following procedure.

You must have at least two supportlines.
A beam layout is used to specify the general girder geometry for a slab and girder bridge. This procedure is used for concrete and steel girder bridges.
  1. Either

    On the Home ribbon tab, select the Beam Layout tool in the Superstructure group

    or

    Key in bmgeom beam placecorridor

  2. (Optional) Type a Name for the beam layout in the Place Beam Layout tool settings dialog.
  3. To specify the layout limits, do the following in the view window:
    1. data point on the first supportline to use as the start limit line
    2. data point on the second supportline to use as the end limit line
    3. data point a third time to accept
    The Beam Layout dialog opens.
  4. (Optional) Select a different Alignment or Aux Alignment if necessary:
    To… Do the following…
    Select a different alignment Click Select and then data point on an alignment in the view window.
    Add an auxiliary alignment Click Add and then data point on an alignment in the view window.
  5. Select the Placement Method: Simple or Continuous.
  6. Select the spans to which the current layout will apply.
    Tip: You can select the Set All To Default option for multiple spans to match all the span layouts tot he selected Default Span.
  7. Type the Number of Beams in the span cross-section and click Apply.
    Note: There are several span-wide parameters each with an associated Apply button.
  8. Type the Edge Distance in the span cross-section and click Apply.
  9. (Optional) Specify the default parameters to use for all beams in the span:
    1. Type the SupportLine Offset distance and click Apply.
    2. Set the Skew option and click Apply.
    3. Set the Use Chord option and click Apply.
  10. (Optional) You can manually edit most of the values of individual beams in the details table.
  11. Click Validate.
    Note: If any of the beams in the specified layout are detected to be invalid, then they will be highlighted with red text and marked with a red flag. Make any corrections necessary and repeat this step.
  12. Click Save.
The Beam Layout dialog closes and the beam layout is added to the bridge model. The beam layout is graphically shown as a projection on elevation 0.
