Increasing Display Performance of Cache Views

If you are already promoting Dynamic Views to Cached Views (CVE) and want to increase performance to allow your documentation to become self-sufficient and portable, or to use Cached Views to help buffer the delivery of a documentation while design continues, you can receive an additional performance boost if you set the configuration variable MS_REF_NO_CVE_LOAD equal to 1.

Setting MS_REF_NO_CVE_LOAD equal to 1 prevents the Cached View from trying to resolve its references and their current status. This allows DGN files to load considerably faster especially when a DGN file has fifty or more references which in turn boosts your productivity.

Note: Automatic notification of CVE update status does not occur when MS_REF_NO_CVE_LOAD is equal to 1. A warning dialog appears when opening a DGN file with a Cached View and MS_REF_NO_CVE_LOAD is set to equal 1. You can still manually initiate a status check, by reloading the references in the DGN via the References dialog.

MS_REF_NO_CVE_LOAD options:

  • 1 - (recommended) prevents CVE from trying to resolve references and their current status
  • 0 - (default behavior) allows status resolution
