Column Splice Connection - Dimensions tab

Used to set the dimensions of the space between the two selected shapes. Shapes are lengthen or shortened to meet these values.

.

If the selected shapes are I-shapes, three plates are created as the transition between the shapes. Two flange plates and one web plate.

If the selected shapes are boxed, four plates are created in a boxed formation.

SettingDescription
Dimensions
  • Shorten Upper – Sets the distance the upper shape is shortened to allow for the transition geometry. A positive or a negative value determines the distance. A value of 0 sets no allowance. The default is 0.
  • Join Gap – Sets the dimension of the distance between the two selected shapes to allow for the transition geometry. A positive value determines the distance. A value of 0 sets no gap. The default is 100 or 4 depending of the units setting.
  • Cut Radius – Sets the dimension of the radius in the splice geometry as clearance for welds. A positive value determines the radius. A value of 0 sets no cut radius. The default is 30 or 1.25 depending of the units setting.
  • Gap Above / Gap Below – Sets the gap above / below the splice.
Options
  • Group – When checked, the selected shape, plate and other created objects are arranged to form a group. If the selected shape is already part of an existing group then the created objects are added to that group.
  • With Bolts – Enabled for Group. When checked, the bolts are added to that group.
Bolts
  • Create Bolts – When checked, bolts are created through the holes in the connecting and flange plates. When unchecked, only holes are created.
  • Bolt Style – Sets the bolt style from the installed bolt database's. Select the required bolt type from the list. The default is the first type in the list.
