To create a new pier template

To create a new pier template for either a multi-column pier, wall, or pile bent, use the following procedure.

  1. Either:

    On the Utilities ribbon tab, select the Piers > type Libraries group.

    or

    Key in:

    bmlib manage pier < multicolumn | pilebent >

    The Pier Templates dialog opens.
  2. Click Add New.
    Tip: You can also use the Copy and Edit buttons to use an existing pier type as a template.
    The Edit Pier dialog opens with some basic pier details for the selected pier type already modeled.
  3. Type a Pier Name.
  4. On the Cap tab:
    1. Select the Cap Type. Cap Type can be rectangular, tapered, inverted tee or variable. Variable caps allow different section depths along the length of the cap and can be used to model advanced variations including linear, parabolic, and circular variations.
    2. Type or select the dimension parameters.
    3. Select the Working Point location.
  5. (Optional) Specify a cheek wall:
    1. In the Cheek Wall field, select Yes. The cheek wall parameters are displayed.
    2. Specify cheek wall dimensions and offsets as necessary.
  6. (Multi Column Piers only) On the Column tab:
    1. Select the Column Type.
    2. Type the dimensions.
    3. If Auto Spacing is set to Off, then specify the overhang distance.
    4. Click the Add tool () to add another column with the same Column Type and Dimensions.
    5. If Auto Spacing is set to Off, then specify the overhand distance .
    6. Repeat to add additional columns as necessary.
  7. (Optional) (Multi Column Piers only) On the Strut tab:
    1. Click the Add tool () to add a strut around the columns.
    2. Type the dimensions and offsets to the strut.
    3. (Optional) Select the Start Column and End Column for the strut.
    4. Repeat as necessary to add additional struts.
  8. (Multi Column and Wall Piers only) On the Footing tab:
    1. Select the Footing Type and type dimensions for the Default footing.
    2. Click the Add tool () to add a column-specific footing. A footing is added for Column 1. You can change the footing type and dimensions or leave matching the default footing.
    3. Repeat to add footings for each column as necessary.
  9. (Multi Column and Pile Cap Piers only) On the Pile tab:
    1. Select the Pile Type from the drop-down list for the default footing.
    2. Type the pile dimensions for the default footing.
    3. Click the Pile Layout Design tool () to open the Pile Layout dialog.
    4. Type the margin distances, angles, and numbers of piles in either direction.
    5. Click Generate.
    6. Click the Add tool () to add a column-specific pile arrangement.
    7. Click OK.
  10. Click OK.
