To place beam bearings

To place the beam bearings and bearing seats on the girders, do the following.

  1. On the Home ribbon tab, select the Place Bearing tool in the Substructure group.


  2. In the Place Bearing Under Beam tool settings dialog, use the following Bearing settings:
    Settings Value
    Bearing Type Cube
    Cube Length, W 1.0000 (ft)
    Cube Width, D 1.0000 (ft)
    Cube Height 0.3000 (ft)
    Orientation Pier
  3. In the Place Bearing Under Beam tool settings dialog, clear the Has Grout Pads check box if it is checked.
    Note: Grout pads are not used in the bearings for this tutorial.
  4. In the Place Bearing Under Beam tool settings dialog, use the following Bearing Seat settings:
    Settings Value
    Has Bearing Seats Yes
    Model Stepped Cap No (cleared)
    Seat Min Thickness 0.5000 (ft)
    Seat D1 0.7500 (ft)
    Seat D2 0.7500 (ft)
    Seat W1 0.7500 (ft)
    Seat W2 0.7500 (ft)
    Orientation Pier
  5. Select Bearing for the Feature Definition.
  6. Specify the offset and place bearings on the starting abutment:
    1. In the Place Bearing Under Beam tool settings dialog, use the following Path settings:
      Settings Value
      Back Offset 0.0000 (ft)
      Ahead Offset 1.0000 (ft)
    2. In the view window, select supportline 1 (start abutment).
      Tip: An "X" is placed over each location where a beam set will be placed on the selected supportlines (i.e., at each beam bearing).
    3. Reset (i.e., right-click) to set the selection set.
    4. Data point again to accept the selection set.
    The bearings are placed at the start abutment.
  7. Repeat step 4 with a Back Offset of 0.0000 and Ahead Offset of 0.0000 on supportline 2 (center pier).
  8. Repeat step 4 with a Back Offset of -1.0000 and Ahead Offset of 0.0000 on supportline 3 (end abutment).
The bearings and bearing seats are added to the model.
