To place the beam layout

To place the beam layout for the US301 over RR bridge, do the following.

  1. On the Home ribbon tab, select the Beam Layout tool in the Superstructure group


  2. To specify the layout limits, do the following in the view window:
    1. select supportline 1 to use as the start limit line
    2. select supportline 4 to use as the end limit line
    3. data point a third time to accept
    The Beam Layout dialog opens.
  3. Select SupportLine1 - SupportLine2 as the Default Span and then check the Set All To Default option. The SupportLine2 - SupportLine3 and SupportLine3 - SupportLine4 options are selected. This will result in all spans have the same beam layout.
  4. Set the following beam layout parameters:
    1. Type 7 in the Number of Beams field and then press <Enter>. The table is updated with seven rows.
    2. Type 3.5 (ft) in the Left Edge Distance field and then click Apply. The beam spacing values are updated accordingly.
    3. Type -3.5 (ft) in the Right Edge Distance field and then click Apply. The beam spacing values are updated accordingly.
    4. Type 3 (in) in the PL Offset field and then press <Enter>. The PL Offset values at the Beam Start are updated accordingly.
    5. Type -3 (in) in the PL Offset field and then press <Enter>. The PL Offset values at the Beam End are updated accordingly.
    Note: Leave the Skew Ends and Use Chords options unchecked.
  5. Click Validate.
  6. Click Save.
The Beam Layout dialog closes and the beam layout is added to the bridge model. The beam layout is graphically shown as a projection on elevation 0.
