To place a barrier

To place a barrier along the edge of a deck, use the following procedure.

You must have an existing deck object in your model.
  1. Either:

    On the Home ribbon tab, select the Place Barrier tool in the Auxiliary group.

  2. In the Place Barrier tool settings dialog, select the barrier template to use:
    1. Click […] adjacent to the Template Name setting. The Template Selection dialog opens.
    2. In the list of Barriers, select the barrier template to use.
      Note: Barriers are designated Left (L) and Right (R). You must select the one for the side of the deck you will be placing.
    3. Click OK.
  3. (Optional) Specify additional settings such as offsets and orientation.
  4. (Optional) In the Create Barrier tool settings dialog, clear the Add Constraints check box if no additional placement constraints are required
  5. In the view window, do the following:
    1. Data point on existing decks to add them to the selection set.
    2. Reset (i.e., right-click) to set the selection set.
    3. Data point again to accept.
    The Path Selection dialog opens.
  6. In the Path Selection dialog, choose one of the following methods for aligning the barrier:
    Method Description
    By road alignment Click Select Alignment and then data point on an alignment in the view window. The barrier WP is placed along this path.
    By deck or section point Click Select Guideline form List to open a Path Selection dialog displaying the cross-section. Select one of the section points to align the barrier WP to. Click OK when complete.
  7. Click OK.
The barrier is placed along the side of the deck according to the side of barrier selected.
