Modify Pen Table Dialog

Used to resymbolize printer output, control the order of element printing, and perform text string substitutions by defining or modifying a pen table.

You can access this dialog from the following:
  • Print dialog: Resymbolization > Edit Pen Table
  • Print Dialog: select Resymbolization > New Pen Table, type a name of a new pen table, and click OK in the Create Pen Table file dialog.


SettingDescription
Element Section Processing Order Contains a list of section names, defining the order in which sections are processed. When you edit a new pen table, a single section called NEW is inserted automatically. You can rename this section, or delete and insert one or more sections using the Edit menu.
Down Interchanges a selected section name in the Element Section Processing Order list box with the name immediately below it, assuming the selected name is not at the bottom of the list box.
Up Interchanges a selected section name in the Element Section Processing Order list box with the name immediately above it, assuming the selected name is not at the top of the list box.
Text Substitutions Opens the Text Substitutions dialog, which is used to generate substitution string pairs. Each pair consists of an actual string and a replacement string.


Map Pen Colors Opens the Pen Table - Map Design Colors to Output Pen Symbology dialog, which is used to apply multiple output color and width symbology to different parts of the same element, based on the component colors.
Map Pen Weights Opens the Pen Table - Map Design Weights to Output Width dialog, which is used to specify print output weights for each of the 32 weight values.
Pen Table Options Opens the Pen Table Options dialog, which is used to control global pen table options.
Element Selection Criteria tab Contains controls used to specify selection criteria, unique to each section, against which elements are evaluated.
Element Output Actions tab If an element under evaluation matches a section's element selection criteria, the actions specified using the controls on the Element Output Actions tab are executed.
File > New… Opens the Create Pen Table File dialog, a standard new file dialog, used to name a new (blank) pen table file. When Save is clicked in the Create Pen Table File dialog, a single entry, NEW, appears in the Element Section Processing Order list box. Other entries, if present, are deleted.
File > Open… Opens the Select Pen Table File dialog, a standard file open dialog, used to open an existing pen table file.
File > Save Saves the active pen table file.
File > Save As… Opens the Create Pen Table File dialog, a standard file dialog, used to save the active pen table file to a new file.
File > Export CTB File … Lets you export a CTB file. See Pen Maps for more information.
File > Exit and Unload Unloads the whole Pen Table application, including the active pen table file, and closes the Modify Pen Table dialog. (To close the Modify Pen Table dialog without unloading the Pen Table application, click the dialog close button.)
Edit > Insert New Section Above… Opens the Insert Section dialog, used to name a new section, and when its OK button is pressed, inserts the new section name in the Element Section Processing Order list box, above the section highlighted in the list box.
Edit > Insert New Section Below… Opens the Insert Section dialog, used to name a new section, and when its OK button is pressed, inserts the new section name in the Element Section Processing Order list box, below the section highlighted in the list box.
Edit > Rename Section… Opens the Rename Section dialog, used to change the name of a section highlighted in the Element Section Processing Order list box.
Edit > Delete Section Deletes the section highlighted in the Element Section Processing Order list box. If only one section exists it will not be deleted because one section must be present at all times.
Edit > Clear Types Deselects all element types selected in the Element Selection Criteria controls Type list box.
Edit > Clear Classes Deselects all element classes selected in the Element Selection Criteria controls Class list box.
Edit > Set All Types Selects all element types listed in the Element Selection Criteria controls Type list box.
Edit > Set All Classes Selects all element classes listed in the Element Selection Criteria controls Class list box.
