To Define a Simple Text Substitution for Date and User Name
- In the DGN file, place one string of text for the date ($DATE$) and one string of text for the user name ($USER$) that you want substituted with something else in the printed output.

In the Modify Pen Table dialog’s Global Actions section, click the Text Substitutions button.
The Text Substitutions dialog opens.

From the Text Substitutions dialog’s Edit menu, choose the Insert Date menu item.
Choosing this menu item inserts a list box entry. A special string (_DATE_) appears in the Replacement field and a suggested string ($DATE$) appears in the Actual field.
- (Optional) In the Actual field, edit the string to match an existing string in the design file.

A special string (Original) appears in the Actual field.
- Replace the string in the Actual text box with $USER$.
- Click in the Replacement text box and type in User: $(USERNAME).
- Press <Enter> to add the replacement string to the list box.
- Close the Text Substitutions dialog.
