To Import an Esri SHP File

  1. Select File > Import > Geospatial File Types > Shapefile (*.shp). The Import dialog opens.
  2. Select the file(s) to import. You can select multiple files in multiple folders. You can also select the files in ProjectWise.
  3. For each input file, you can use a Template named as its shapefile name. You can modify these defaults by selecting any existing Template using the drop-down. For each template, the application will display the Item Type specified in the Template.
    • If there is no Item Type specified in the Template, the application will propose an Item Type named as the input shape file.
    • If only one Item Type is specified, its name will be listed in the column.
    • If more than one Item Type is specified in the Template, you will have **Multiple Item Types**.
  4. You can enable the option to flip the X and Y axes. It is sometimes necessary to correct badly created files that do not follow the definition of the coordinate system in which they are created.
  5. When all parameters are set as required, the Import button will run the import.
