To Split the Cells of a Table

Only the cells that are merged can be split.
  1. Select a merged cell.
  2. Do one of the following:

    Right-click and select Split Cells from the reset pop-up menu.

    or

    In the Table Tools > Layout contextual tab, in the Merge group, select Split Cells.
