Configuration Changes

In MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 4 and later, installation options are available to define the locations of both the Delivered Configuration and a Custom Configuration.

The Delivered Configuration is the location where the MetroStation Example WorkSpace is installed. By default, it is installed in C:\ProgramData\Bentley\<product_name> CONNECT Edition\Configuration\ folder defined by the _USTN_INSTALLED_CONFIGURATION configuration variable. Generally, there is no need to change the location of the Delivered Configuration from its default. If a non-default location is needed, select the location in the Delivered Configuration field on the Configuration page of the installer. Note that you cannot install the Delivered Configuration at C:\ProgramData\Bentley\CONNECT Edition\Configuration. This was the location of Configuration in Update 3 and previous CONNECT Edition releases and if users had their production work at that location, it would cause conflicts.

The Custom Configuration is the recommended location for user WorkSpaces and WorkSets. To specify the path of the Custom Configuration, on the Configuration page, first select the Custom Configuration (plus Delivered Configuration) radio button and then set the path in the Custom Configuration field. This Custom Configuration path is written into the ConfigurationSetup.cfg file. WorkSpaces subsequently created in this location are displayed as Custom Configuration WorkSpaces in the Work Page. This configuration is defined by the _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION configuration variable.

Note: It is highly recommended that you use the Custom Configuration for production work and not the Delivered Configuration. The Delivered Configuration primarily contains example data for your reference and training purposes. It may be updated in future releases.
Note: If you are upgrading from a previous update of MicroStation CONNECT Edition and have Custom Configuration set, you will have to select the same in the Custom Configuration field of the Configuration page.

The main difference between the Configuration settings in MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 4 versus the previous CONNECT Edition releases is that previously, at install time, you could define the path for WorkSpaces and Organization folders within a Configuration; whereas now you can define the path of the Configuration folder itself.

If you have a previous release of MicroStation CONNECT Edition installed, and have created custom WorkSpaces, then while upgrading you should point the Custom Configuration field to the folder that contains the WorkSpaceSetup.cfg file of your Configuration. If the custom WorkSpaces were created in the delivered Configuration folder (C:\ProgramData\Bentley\CONNECT Edition\Configuration), then you should point the Custom Configuration field to that location. While upgrading, the Custom Configuration field by default points to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\CONNECT Edition\Configuration.
