To Merge Cells of a Table

Select the first cell in the table.
Press <Ctrl> and select adjacent cells that you want to merge.
Do one of the following:

Right-click and select Merge Cells from the reset pop-up menu.

or
In the Table Tools > Layout contextual tab, in the Merge group, select Merge Cells.
