Print Organizer Preferences Dialog

Used to adjust printing and print engine settings for Print Organizer.

You can access this dialog from the following:
  • Print Organizer dialog: Edit > Preferences

Some of the print settings have associated configuration variables. These configuration variables are honored and when defined override the corresponding preferences. Preferences for which an override is in effect are disabled in the dialog.

SettingDescription
Enable auto rotation If set, the plot rotation is manipulated in order to achieve the best fit.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_ENABLE_AUTO_ROTATE configuration variable.

Note: This setting applies only to the HPGL2, HPGLRTL, and the PSCRIPT Bentley printer drivers.
Enable auto orientation If set, the paper orientation is manipulated in order to achieve the best fit.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_ENABLE_AUTO_ORIENT configuration variable.

Note: This setting applies only to the CALS, JPEG, PDF, PNG, PRINTER, and TIFF Bentley printer drivers.
Enable scale preservation If set, the current plot scale is preserved when a new view, fence, or paper size is selected.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_ENABLE_PRESERVE_SCALE configuration variable.

Enable scale clipping If set, the plot fence or sheet size is reduced to accommodate the specified scale factor.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_ENABLE_SCALE_CLIPPING configuration variable.

Default form scale priority If set, the default form scale is reapplied whenever the paper size changes. By default, the current print scale is preserved.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_FORM_SCALE_PRIORITY configuration variable.

Maximize on new plot area If set, the print size is maximized automatically when the print area changes. This includes when a view number is selected or a fence is placed. By default, the current print scale is preserved.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_MAX_ON_NEW_AREA configuration variable.

Honor sheet layout If clear, the Print Organizer dialog operates as if no sheet layout information is set.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_SET_LAYOUT_FROM_SHEET configuration variable.

Honor sheet plot style table By default, any plot style table (CTB or STB file) specified in the sheet definition is automatically attached to the plot. If clear, sheet plot style tables are ignored.

This is controlled by the MS_PLT_SET_PLOT_STYLE_TABLE_FROM_SHEET configuration variable.

Preview entire page (Applies only when not in Full sheet mode) If set, the Preview dialog displays the physical paper size, including a rectangle showing the usable area. If clear, it displays only the usable area.
Preview accurate rotation If unchecked, preview always shows the plot as if it had no rotation. This setting is only valid for:
  • DGN and DWG print definitions
  • Plot rotations of 90 or 270
  • The hpgl2.pltcfg, hpglrtl.pltcfg, and pscript.pltcfg printer drivers
Thumbnail preview timeout (sec) Controls how long the thumbnail preview in the Print dialog paints before stopping to allow the rest of the dialog to refresh. The default is 10 seconds.
Models used when creating print definitions List box that lets you choose which models to print.
  • Prefer sheet models — A print definition is created for each sheet model. If there are no sheet models present, a print definition is created for each design model.
  • All sheet models — A print definition is created for each sheet model.
  • All design models — A print definition is created for each design model.
  • All models — A print definition is created for each model.
Open design files in read-only mode If set, Print Organizer opens all design files in read-only mode to prevent any inadvertent modifications to the files.

This is controlled by the MS_PRINTORGANIZER_OPEN_DGN_READWRITE configuration variable.

Enable variable print definitions If set, Print Organizer creates variable print definitions when design files are added to Print Organizer. Variable print definitions improve flexibility and performance in some workflows by deferring discovery of models and print shapes to print time. This allows Print Organizer to create variable print definitions faster than fixed print definitions, and ensures that any newly added models will print automatically without altering the print set.
Note: Raster and PDF print definitions are always created as fixed print definitions, regardless of how the Enable variable print definition control is set in the Preferences dialog.

You can also use the configuration variable MS_PLT_ENABLE_VARIABLE_DEFINITION_MODE to specify which type of print definition you want to create. For more information, see Creating Print Definitions.
