To Attach a GIS File as a Reference

Open the References dialog ( Drawing > Attach > References dialog launcher ).
Choose Tools > Attach.
The Attach Reference dialog opens.
To change the filter, select "Shapefiles (*.shp)," "MIF/MID Files (*.mif)," or "TAB Files (*.tab)" from the Files of type: list.
(Optional) To select a different source disk drive or directory, choose the desired drive or directory from the Look in list.
Select the desired file.
Click Open.
The Reference Attachment Properties dialog opens.
In the Reference Attachment Properties dialog's Orientation list box, select the desired option.
Click OK.
