To Create a Named Expression for Print Definition and Output File Names

  1. Open the DGN library in which you want to store the named expression.
  2. Open the Named Expressions dialog (Drawing workflow > Utilities tab > Utilities group > Named Expressions) and in its toolbar, select New.
  3. In the Internal Name field, type an expression name.
  4. In the External Name field, type an expression name. This name appears in Print Organizer's dialogs.
  5. (Optional) In the Description field, key in a description of the named expression.
  6. Under Keywords, select Print Set.
    Note: Named expressions stored in a DGN library must have the Print Set keyword checked in order to be displayed in Print Organizer.
  7. Under Required Symbol Sets, add the symbol sets such as PrintSet, and PrintDefinition.
    Note: In order for the PrintSet and PrintDefinition symbol sets to display in the Required Symbol Sets list box, you must have Print Organizer open.
  8. In the Expression field, type the expression. To specify a string or numeric value, type it in. To specify a symbol, right-click in the field and select a value or method from the pop-up menu.


    Note: The Test button is not supported when using expressions containing PrintDefinition or PrintSet symbols.
  9. In the toolbar, click the Save icon.
