To Select a Gradient as a Map

In the Material Editor, click the Pattern Map or Bump Map icon as required.
The Map Editor dialog opens.

In the Map Editor dialog, use the option menu on the left to set map type to Gradient.

Use the option menu on the right to select Linear or Radial.
