Dimension Styles Dialog, Advanced Tab

Contains all controls for dimension styles. Many of these controls are also found on the Dimension Styles tabs. The Advanced tab includes additional controls.



SettingDescription
Mode Controls how advanced dimension styles settings are displayed.
  • Edit — Lists all dimension styles properties and values. To modify a dimension style property, click in the Value column.
  • Comparison — Compares the values for two dimension styles. Turn on Compare with Library to compare a dimension style and a dimension style library. All dimension style properties are listed. The properties with different values are displayed in bold, and the values are listed.
  • Differences — Compares the values for two dimension styles. Turn on Compare with Library to compare a dimension style and a dimension style library. This option displays only the properties with different values.
Style Name Lists the name of the dimension style.
Description Lists a description for the dimension style.
Placement Contains controls that affect the placement of dimensions.
  • Level -

    Sets the level on which dimensions are placed. This can also be set to the active level, which is shown by the level name in parentheses (LEVEL NAME).

    Key-in: DIMENSION LEVEL [ACTIVE]

    DIMENSION LEVEL [LEVEl]

    or LD = ACTIVE

    or LD = <level>

  • Override Level Symbology -

    If on, dimension attribute settings override the level symbology settings for dimension placement.

  • Alignment -

    Determines the axis along which the dimension is aligned.

    Key-in: DIMENSION AXIS [ARBITRARY | DRAWING | TRUE | VIEW]

  • Annotation Scale -

    If on, sets the annotation scale to be applied to the dimension geometry. Works independent of the Use Annotation Scale lock.

  • Location -

    Sets the location of dimension text:

    • Automatic — Dimension text is automatically placed according to the Justification setting.
    • Semi-Automatic — Dimension text is automatically placed according to the Justification setting if the text fits between the extension lines. If the text does not fit, you position the text in response to a prompt.
    • Manual — You position dimension text in response to a prompt.

    Key-in: DIMENSION PLACEMENT [AUTO | MANUAL | SEMIAUTO]

  • Adjust Dimension Line -

    If on, the dimension line and text are dynamically moved and the extension lines are dynamically extended if there is insufficient space to fit the dimension text without overlaying existing dimension text.

  • Reference Scale -

    If on, dimensions display the true size of referenced geometry. This option only applies when dimensioning elements in a scaled reference.

  • Relative Dimension Line -

    See the Dimension Lines category in the Geometry tab description.

  • Center Size -

    See the Center Mark category in the Geometry tab description.

  • Drop Dimension -

    After placement, all dimension are dropped to simple geometry

Tolerance Consists of controls that are used to control the generation of tolerance dimensions.
  • Enable -

    If on, displays tolerances.

    If off, does not display tolerances.

  • Type -

    See the Tolerance category in the Geometry tab.

  • Upper -

    See the Tolerance category in the Geometry tab.

  • Lower -

    See the Tolerance category in the Geometry tab.

  • Stack if Equal -

    When on, plus/minus tolerances are stacked. Otherwise, equal tolerances are displayed on a single line.

  • Show Sign for Zero -

    If on, plus and minus tolerances of zero value display with a plus or minus sign.

  • Primary Tolerance Accuracy -

    Controls the number of decimal places to display for tolerance values.

  • Retain Fractional Accuracy -

    If on, tolerance values are not reduced to the lowest common denominator.

  • Secondary Tolerance Accuracy -

    Controls the number of decimal places to display for secondary tolerance values.

  • Retain Fractional Accuracy -

    If on, secondary tolerance values are not reduced to the lowest common denominator.

  • Text Size -

    See the Tolerance category in the Geometry tab.

  • Left Margin -

    See the Tolerance category in the Geometry tab.

  • Sep. Margin -

    See the Tolerance category in the Geometry tab.

  • Prefix -

    Sets the prefix for both lines of the tolerance text.

  • Suffix -

    Sets the suffix for both lines of the tolerance text.

Units Consists of controls that affect unit display in dimension text.
  • Scale Factor -

    See the Scale category in the Units tab.

  • Angle -

    See the Angle Format category in the Units tab.

  • Metric -

    See the Metric Format category in the Units tab.

  • Stacked Fractions -

    See the Stacked Fractions category in the Text tab.

  • Primary -

    See the Primary Units category in the Units tab. An additional setting is:

    • Retain Fractional Accuracy — If on, fractional values are not reduced to the lowest common denominator.
    • Show Zero Master Unit — If on, displays the master unit value even if the value is zero. For example, 0'–6 \”.”
    • Show Zero Sub Unit — If on, displays the sub unit value even if the value is zero. For example, 5'-0 \”.”
  • Primary Alternate -

    See the Primary Units category in the Units tab. An additional setting is:

    • Retain Fractional Accuracy — If on, fractional values are not reduced to the lowest common denominator.

  • DIN Dimensioning -
    • Superscript — The least significant digit is displayed as superscript.
    • Superscript Character — If, on, the superscript number uses a resource character. If off, the superscript number is supplied by the active font.
    • Rounding — If on, round to the closest half unit. 0 is not displayed.
Graphics Contains controls that override symbology settings for dimension lines, extension lines, and terminators.
  • Dimension Lines -

    See the Dimension Lines category in the Symbology tab. An additional setting is:

    • Stack offset — Sets the space, in working units, between dimension lines if dimensions are stacked.
  • Extension Lines -
    • Enable, Offset, Extension — See the Extension Lines category in the Geometry tab.
    • Color, Line Style, Weight — See the Extension Lines category in the Symbology tab.
    • Join When Text Outside — If on, it places a connecting line between an extension line and text placed outside the extension line.

      If off, no connecting line is placed.

  • Terminators -
    • Arrowhead, Width, Height, Uniform Cell Scale — See the Terminators category in the Geometry tab.
    • Color, Line Style, Weight — See the Terminators category in the Symbology tab.
  • Fit Options -

    Selects the minimum fit dependant on text, terminator or combination.

    • Text/Terminator, Min. Leader — See the Fit Options category in the Geometry tab.
    • Suppress Unfit term. — If on, suppresses the dimension lines and terminators if they do not fit between the extension lines.
    • Text Above Optimal Fit — Uses the smallest fit for the non-inline text alignment.
    • Fit True Dimension Text — Controls the fit of the dimension text on True dimensions, if the text is horizontal.
    • Extended Dim Line Under Text — If on, extends the dimension line under angular dimension text when the text is pushed to the outside.

      The Orientation on the Text tab must be set to Aligned for this fit option to work.

Text Consists of controls that are used to control the placement and appearance of text.
  • Format -

    See the Format category in the Text tab. An additional setting is:

    • Inline Text Lift — Lifts text above dimension line when the dimension line is horizontal. Only used if Orientation = Horizontal and Location = Inline.
    • Label Line Format — Sets the display and location of length and/or angle value for label-line dimensions.
  • Style -
    • Text Style, Font, Height, Width, Underline — See the Style category in the Text tab.
    • Color, Weight — See the Text category in the Symbology tab.
  • Dim With Leader -

    See the Dimension with Leader category in the Geometry tab. An additional setting is:

    • Undock Text — If on, does not dock text when it is near the dimension line.
Notes Contains controls for the appearance of the leader and text used by the Place Note tool.
  • Leader Type, Terminator, Frame, and In-line Leader -

    See the Notes category in the Text tab.

  • Leader Length -

    Sets the length of the in-line leader, in text height units.

  • Left Margin, Lower Margin, Text Rotation, Edit About, and Horizontal Attachment -

    See the Notes category in the Text tab.

  • Left Attachment -

    Sets the vertical location for the left justification.

  • Right Attachment -

    Sets the vertical location for the right justification.

  • Frame Scale -

    See the Notes category in the Text tab.

Note: The configuration variable MS_NOTEAUTOUPDATE determines the settings that will be propagated to existing notes when a dimension style is saved. To propagate individual settings, list them in the configuration variable definition separated by commas. To propagate all settings, set the configuration variable to "All."
Symbols Contains controls that specify symbols used in dimensions.
  • Arrow Terminator -

    Specifies an alternate to MicroStation’s default arrowhead.

    • Type — Default arrowhead, Symbol (character and font), or cell.
    • Cell Name — Sets the arrow terminator symbol cell name.
    • Font — Sets the arrow terminator symbol character font.
    • Character — Sets the arrow terminator symbol character.
    • Leader Through Terminator — If on, the dimension line passes through the terminator.
  • Stroke Terminator -

    Specifies an alternate to MicroStation’s default stroke terminator.

    The choices are the same as for the Arrow Terminator.

  • Origin Terminator -

    Specifies an alternate to MicroStation’s default origin terminator.

    The choices are the same as for the Arrow Terminator.

  • Dot Terminator -

    Specifies an alternate to MicroStation’s default dot terminator.

    The choices are the same as for the Arrow Terminator.

  • Note Terminator -

    Specifies an alternate to MicroStation’s default Note terminator.

    The choices are the same as for the Arrow Terminator.

  • Prefix -

    Specifies a custom prefix symbol.

    The choices are the same as for the Arrow Terminator.

  • Suffix -

    Specifies a custom suffix symbol.

    The choices are the same as for the Arrow Terminator.

  • Diameter -

    Specifies a custom diameter symbol.

    • Type — Default, Symbol.
    • Font — Sets the diameter character font.
    • Character — Sets the diameter symbol character.
  • Plus/Minus -

    Specifies an alternate plus/minus symbol.

    • Type — Default, Symbol
    • Character — Sets the plus/minus symbol character.
Tool Specific Consists of controls for settings that affect individual dimensioning tools.

Under each tool is a list of the settings for this tool. These settings are listed below.

  • Left Terminator -

    Sets the optional terminator for the start of dimension lines.

    DIMENSION TERMINATOR LEFT [OFF | ARROW | DOT | ORIGIN | STROKE]

  • Right Terminator -

    Sets the optional terminator for the end of dimension lines.

    DIMENSION TERMINATOR RIGHT [OFF | ARROW | DOT | ORIGIN | STROKE]

  • First Terminator -

    Sets the optional terminator for the beginning of a dimension string.

    DIMENSION TERMINATOR FIRST [OFF | ARROW | DOT | ORIGIN | STROKE]

  • Joint Terminator -

    Sets the optional terminator for chained dimensions between the first and last dimension segments.

    DIMENSION TERMINATOR JOINT [OFF | ARROW | DOT | ORIGIN | STROKE]

  • Left Extension -

    If on and Extension Lines is on, places dimensions with an extension line at the left end (start of the dimension).

    DIMENSION EXTENSION LEFT [OFF | ON | TOGGLE]

  • Right Extension -

    If on and Extension Lines is on, displays the second extension line.

    DIMENSION EXTENSION RIGHT [OFF | ON | TOGGLE]

  • Stack Dimensions -

    If on, places stacked dimensions . If off, places in-line (unstacked) dimensions.

    Enable this option to create “dog legs” in ordinate dimensions in cases where the text from a higher ordinate would overlap the text from a lower ordinate.

    DIMENSION STACKED [OFF | ON | TOGGLE]

  • Arc Symbol -

    If on, places arc dimension text with an arc length accent symbol.

    DIMENSION ARCLENGTH [OFF | ON | TOGGLE]

  • Prefix -

    Sets the optional symbol for placement before dimension text.

    DIMENSION PRE [OFF | DIAMETER | RADIUS | SQUARE]

  • Suffix -

    Sets the optional symbol for placement after dimension text.

    DIMENSION VERTICAL [OFF | MIXED | ON]

  • Text -

    Sets the orientation of dimension text:

    • Standard — All dimension text is placed horizontally in the dimension line.
    • Vertical — All text is placed vertically (in line with and above the extension line).
    • Mixed — All text is placed vertically only if it does not fit horizontally in the dimension line.
  • Chord Align -

    If on, places arc dimension extension lines non-radially.

  • Leader -

    Sets the optional terminator for the beginning of a dimension string.

  • Center Mark -

    If on, radial dimensions are placed with a center mark.

  • Text -

    Sets the orientation of dimension text.

  • Decrement in Reverse Direction -

    If on, ordinate values to the left of the datum point will be less than the datum.

  • Datum Value -

    Sets the datum value used for the first point of an ordinate dimension.

  • Free Location of Text -

    If on, ordinate dimension values can be freely located.
