Design File Settings Dialog, Grid Category

Consists of controls that are used to set Grid Lock and the grid's spacing and configuration.

Grid category controls

SettingDescription
Grid Lock If on, each data point is forced to lie on the grid.
LOCK GRID [ OFF | ON | TOGGLE ]
Note: If the optional argument is omitted, the current setting is toggled.
Note: Conflicts between Grid Lock and Axis Lock are resolved as follows:
  • If the (Axis) Start Angle and (Axis) Increment are such that the grid does not align with an axis, Axis Lock nullifies Grid Lock.
  • If the axis anchor point is off the grid and the axis start angle and increment are such that grid points do not lie on an axis, Grid Lock is applied, followed by Axis Lock.
Note: Unit Lock nullifies Grid Lock if the (Unit) Distance is greater than the distance between grid points.
Note: Grid Lock can also be set in the Locks dialog along with Axis Lock, Axis Start Angle, Axis Increment, Unit Lock, and Unit Distance.
Grid Master Sets the distance, in working units, between horizontal grid points in an orthogonal grid.
ACTIVE GRIDUNIT [ mu:su:pu ]
GU= [ mu:su:pu ]
Grid Reference Sets the maximum number of grid references lines between grid Master lines.
ACTIVE GRIDREF [ units ]
GR= [ units ]
Grid Config(uration) Sets the grid configuration:
  • Ortho(gonal) - Grid points aligned along lines perpendicular to design plane x-axis and y-axis.
  • Isometric - Grid points aligned along lines at 30° from design plane x-axis and y-axis. (An Isometric grid is actually a special case of an Offset grid.)
  • Offset - Grid rows are offset by half the distance between horizontal grid points.
ACTIVE GRIDMODE [ ISOMETRIC | OFFSET | ORTHOGONAL ]
Grid Aspect (Y/X) Sets the ratio of the vertical (Y) distance between grid points to the horizontal (X) distance between grid points.

Aspect Ratio (Y/X) is disabled if the Configuration is Isometric, because the aspect ratio is fixed in an isometric grid.

ACTIVE GRIDRATIO [ aspect_ratio ]
Tip: To configure a grid to lie at a 45° angle, set Configuration to Offset and set Aspect Ratio to 0.5.
Orientation Sets the orientation of the grid. If the orientation is ACS, Top, Right, or Front, in larger 3D views grid reference lines may be omitted to indicate grid orientation without cluttering the display.
  • ACS — Aligns the grid with the XY-plane of the active Auxiliary Coordinate System.
  • Top — Aligns the grid with the Top view. It extends along the X and Y axes from the global origin. When you rotate the view, the grid rotates with it.
  • Right — (3D only) Aligns the grid with the Right view. It extends along the Y and Z axes from the global origin. When you rotate the view, the grid rotates with it.
  • Front — (3D only) Aligns the grid with the Front view. It extends along the X and Z axes from the global origin. When you rotate the view, the grid rotates with it.
  • View — Aligns the grid with the view. The grid always aligns to the view and passes through the global origin. That is, in each view the grid will appear the same, grid points aligned horizontally.
