Modifying the Ribbon Items Delivered with the Product
Unlike the customizations that you can do to custom workflows, tabs, and groups, there are certain limitations to the customizations that you can do to the ribbon components delivered with the product.
- If you add a delivered group to your custom tab, the added group will specify the delivered group as a "Base Group". Using the delivered group as a Base Group allows future changes to the Base Group to automatically be seen in the custom group that references it. The same is applicable to other delivered components, namely, tabs, split buttons, and drop-down buttons, when they are added to custom workflows or groups. If you do not want this referencing, once you copy the delivered ribbon component, right-click on it and select Import Local Copy. A local copy of the delivered component is created, which is no longer connected to the original delivered component.
- Items that have a solid lock on their icons mean that such items cannot be customized. For example, the Tasks tab. Items that have outlined locks on their icons mean that the child components in those items cannot be customized. For example, the Attributes group.
